my psychologist wants me to write in a journal/diary so i can moniter my thoughts/moods.
The idea of a journal seems pretty gay to me but i said i'd try it.
What the fuck am i supposed to actually write?

Write whatever you feel like. Don't put any thought into it. Whether you consider yourself a writer or not, putting pen to paper and just letting thoughts flow can be a meditative, therapeutic experience.

i voluntarily wrote a journal for the past 4 years and it was pretty great for self-reflection. looking back on those pages i usually go "wow, i was full of shit" which is a conclusion i couldn't come to without a journal.

QFT.
I've kept a journal ever since I got one for christmas when I was about 9 years old. You can look back on your pages and see how you have grown up emotionally, how you have changed...how different scenarios have affected you.
Some really shitty times in life can be put into perspective in retrospect. We are the sum of all our choices and emotions.
I love journaling.

I'm just about to start one. My girlfriend bought me a leather blank book from Florence when we were over there. I wasn't sure what to use it for but it is too nice to use for anything other than a journal (or story).
The first page is the hardest

I just put a journal post up, however I might use it for more abstract purposes rather than geeting my "feelings" out---I got the boards to do that.
Shameless plugs! Adventures! Non-Sequiturs! Stuff you shouldn't care about but end up caring anway! That is going to be my journal.
You could also say my journal is in the media I create. I love self expression; It is da realest fun there is!

Yeah, journals are good for creative purposes. Afterwards you can cherry pick emotions or ideas that you wrote down and expand on them

I dig journaling when I take the time to do it. I lack the self-discipline to keep one going though. Did a regular one off and on for like five years and just canned it afterwords... mostly after looking at all I'd written and being generally disgusted with my past views.
But now I'm toying with it again.
Damn it Shroomery, quit making me want to be productive. You guys are fuckin' up my flow!

From the replies of the other posters, I guess they never wrote a journal for medical review. I did, and I put down my thoughts. Big mistake. The journal was presented to my MD so that he might treat me for something. Fortunately, he was a really astute Dr. and basically told the head fuckers that they got what they asked for, and had he known about it ahead of time he would have insisted that I not write down thoughts. Instead he gave me instruction on meditation.

My journal is for me and me only. If I want to share it, that is my business. Not my therapist, doctor, family or friends.

That is what I'm saying. Hey, unless all your thoughts are pure from the subjective viewpoint of the reviewer, then you will get feedback that you probably don't deserve. I don't know what your (or anyone else's) thoughts are, and I don't want to know. I also happen to believe that no person can or should be accountable for their thoughts, only actions.

yeah, i see what you mean now.
I'm only going to put down any thoughts i've had that could be helpful to the psychologist in helping me anyway.
It's a bit of a weird thing because i've never did it before, it's kinda embarassing cos some of my negative thoughts are a bit extreme.

I reccomend keeping another journal that's just for yourself. Don't worry about importance/triviality of the ideas you're putting down, just pick a time of day when you feel most at ease and write for at least a half hour each day, even if you don't know what to write about at first. It helps immensely to not be censoring yourself.

My journal is mostly a compilation of angry letters to people that i'd never actually send. it helps me sort out my feelings i guess, but i'd never share it with anyone, not even my psychiatrist.
a journal's supposed to be private, yo
