IMPLEE, drop it!!!!
We GET IT. We understand your point- we just don't agree!!! It is not going to pan out like that. I'm sorry.
Who told you that a sub-forum with new people would be too hard to moderate??? It certainly wasn't me. I told you that I didn't have the TIME or INTEREST in moderating a sub-forum.

I would like to see an unmoderated hunting forum. A place where I could answer questions about what mushrooms grow in my area, incomplete ID requests, etc.
I specialize in incomplete ID requests, so I hate to see them locked.

As you well know, some mushrooms are easier identified than others. Some, all we need is a camera phone image and we can say "oh, that's Chlorophyllum molybdites". Others, like that damn bluing Hebeloma or whatever, are really hard to identify even WITH all the info provided!
So like... I don't see how you can "specialize" in incomplete requests, that's silly. Anyone who can identify can make guesses with incomplete info.
But anyway, THIS forum is not going to change that durastically. We are considering a sub-forum.

I enjoy the extra challenge, often I am able to read between the lines and infer the missing information. Sometimes threads get locked because there is not a proper description, and I know what it is and can't say.

Yeah dude, I know! It used to happen to me all the time- sometimes it still does!
The conflict is that if a new user comes on and just happens to have an easy mushroom, and we ID it with no info, then they often come back with a much more unusual or ambiguous find, and expect us to spit out an answer for them. Then when we refer them to the required ID info, they get pissed off and act like we owe them an answer, or that we know and just aren't telling them. ...
And i REALLY hate that shit.
I usually only lock an ID request if they have been referred to the rules and ID info, and continue to post in the thread without providing any further REQUIRED info. Just ignoring the rules. That's not okay with me, so I'll give them my best guess and lock it. They can always start a new thread with the required info if they are not satisfied with the answers.

Well, no one seems to agree what it should be for.
It will be up to the Mushroom Hunting Forum moderators to decide IF there will be a sub-forum, and then if so, what it will be for. We will take everyones opinion into consideration, but we don't promise to please everyone with the final decision (that would of course, be impossible). When we have sorted everything out, there will be an announcement.

GGreatOne234 said: With that said, (very foggy), I think that Gumby once had it in the rules to not make duplicate topics asking about things that have already been discussed and beat into the ground hundreds of times. A example here is that topic about Panaeolina and Panaeolus subbalteatus I locked (and also lost my cool and had a flamewar with scout24). Look in the search engine man, you will find at least a hundred topics about that same exact subject and thousands of replies.. so, I have been blindly enforcing a rule still that does not (or possibly never?) even excisted. My appologize. That is another thing that will be brought up with the other hunting moderators in private.
A rule prohibiting questions on topics that are considered 'already covered' is a terrible idea. The best aspect of a message board is that it is a dynamic source of information. This is particularly beneficial given the evolving nature of mushroom hunting knowledge.
Panaeolina foenesecii vs. Panaeolus subbalteatus is the perfect example. Yes, the topic has been discussed heavily and there are three subbalteatus 'guides' available through the forum. Yet, in the short time that I shared the forum with MJshroomer, author of one of these guides, he stubbornly insisted that subbalteatus rarely grows on grass. The fact is, it is common on grass. Had I merely had MJshroomer's guidance available, I wouldn't had even bothered looking in the grass. That would have been an unfortunate loss.
The thread locked by GGreatOne legitimately asked whether subbs and foes could be distinguished in the field by gill spacing. Are you proposing that questions on the topic of subb v. foes not be allowed? That's absurd. Moderators should be enforcing discreet rules, not passing judgment on the merits of each and every thread.
