No. I don't want the Mushroom Hunting Forum having more general discussion. I like that this forum is a pretty specific interest group. If I want to chit chat (which i rarely do) I'll go to another forum.

I agree with that. The hunting subforum.

The hunting forum is a library of info that can get cluttered at times with people, me included, who occasionaly like to talk to other hunters that they respect. But mushrooms arn't always the sole reason for the conversation. A subforum allows this to happen, while keeping the main forum healthy, and to the point.

i think an off-topic sub forum would be a good thing, and also will the mods please stop locking every topic that has a guide written for it, just because its been discussed before there could always be more to discuss.

If there is, then someone should start a thread discussing SOMETHING. Not just starting a thread FOR discussion, and not contributing anything. So, if you start a thread with a question or comment that is not against the rules, and relates to mushrooms, and suggest others join in, that's fine.

An ID request sub-forum was too slow? Half the posts here are ID requests. Were people just ignoring it or something.. that sucks.

Anyway i think the current setup works pretty well.

The chat room is doing well so far. Several of you have joined, which is good, because I'm not much of a hunter. :smirk: The channel is registered and a few people that are either hunters or experienced IRC ops are being given aops to help keep the order (not that I expect we'll have many problems with keeping order right away).

So far we've had a total of 1 n00b show up, and he didn't bother asking any questions before he left, so I'm not too worried about a huge influx of stupidity. At least not until the season starts back up again. Right now its just a nice place for hunters to go chat, if they so desire. I encourage you all to come. You too, CureCat!

Please keep in mind that IRC chat can be much slower pace than the forums, especially in a new channel. You may come in and everyone may be idle. I urge you to stick around though! People will speak eventually.

I haven't read much of this post and I haven't yet been to the chat room but I will say that I would enjoy a casual sub-forum.

I can't even count the number of times that I have wanted to just ask a quick question regarding something involving mushroom hunting that I couldn't really make a new topic for. These questions ranged from asking about equipment, spores, identification tips, weather, habitat questions, and of course questions about specific mushrooms. Of course I can probably find what I'm looking for in a search but it would be awesome to just have a layed back area for questions and discussion of things that aren't necessarily as general as the stuff in this forum.

So in other words, I would love a sub-forum and I will also check out the chat room. Good idea.

I do not think that the "Noobs" and veterans of the forum should be divided.

implee, if you are so hell bent on avoiding newbies, go to the Veterans Forum (That is available to people who are no longer Newbies).

The hunting moderators are working on a revision to the Weather Rule #5, and it might included some added bits of flexibility.

I used to smoke Cannabis constantly. It impares my memory. I have done searches at the hunting forum from only two years ago or less and read some of the things I typed back then not recognizeing a single bit of any of it. With that said, (very foggy), I think that Gumby once had it in the rules to not make duplicate topics asking about things that have already been discussed and beat into the ground hundreds of times. A example here is that topic about Panaeolina and Panaeolus subbalteatus I locked (and also lost my cool and had a flamewar with scout24). Look in the search engine man, you will find at least a hundred topics about that same exact subject and thousands of replies.. so, I have been blindly enforcing a rule still that does not (or possibly never?) even excisted. My appologize. That is another thing that will be brought up with the other hunting moderators in private.

Right now this main hunting forum is most important and needs a little bit of adjustments, so bare with us during the process.

well people say it would be soooo hard to moderate so cut out the trouble makers (noobs) they are the ones who usualy dont read the rules and ask the same shit opvr and over, noobs who post proper id requests and follow the rules are rare but they are good people...

why would i post in teh veterans lounge? Noone gets my fucking point of mushroom huntnig people wanting to chill with their own kind NOT OTHER GOD DAMN FORUMS

Now do you understand or will i have to repete myself over and over and over again? Ive already explained this probably 5 times

I guess i dont really see the need. We already have a place for mushroom hunting people to chill were in it now actually.

We even just got a brand new IRC channel thanks to adrug. A new subforum just seems like overkill.

plus GG, CC and toxic are discussing the rules issue. Maybe it will help lessen the need that you feel for the subforum.

Ive never really had a problem. If you make a post and you have a hunting story to tell with some pics and you mention that the weather was nice they wont delete your post.

If you make a post where the content of the post IS the comment on how its nice outside, then yes it will probobly be deleted, as it should be.

And i feel that i have to reply because its as if noone had read any of my posts when they talk. But will see what happens with the new rules
