Any difference? is one better than the other? can you use them interchangeably? what about the other ungulates? Deer, Rabbit, Moose, Elk, Camels, Vegetarians? Yeah I know Rabbits ain't ungulates but who cares....they eat grass and poop stuff out

its funny how ppl dont even answer questions like this anymore.
i really dont remember the reason but i think hp indoors is better because something like horses dont absorb/digest/breakdown their food as much as cows, some shit idk man.
but you are on to something with the other animals thing. i think its always fun to see someone growing cubes off some new kind of poop, like the latest one i saw was kangaroo.........makes mushroom growers look like fecalfreaks collecting different animals poo lol.
id say give em all a try man and the beauty of cubes are they'll pretty much fruit on anything

the general consensus is that horse poo is better because of the texture. myc seem to love it.
it's not the fact that horse poo has more nutrients, because subs like coir (with coffee) have comparable nutrient values. (quoting RR here)
experimentation is good though. mixing some cow poo in with other subs like straw or even coir would be cool.

I believe a more important thing is to look for fang fire regardless of which manure you choose.
The pasture I sometimes collect manure from has had both animals. I just go for the dryest/whitest stuff.

Myc spreads through horse poo faster than cow poo because it is not as digested. Cow poo works well with verm mixed in.

i use cow poo exclusively.
my current bulk has produced exactly a quarter less starting from 4 1/2 Ozs through 8 flushes
cow poo alone really isn't suitable for substrate, it compacts too much, so you need to add verm to provide fluff
i doubt hpoo alone would do too well either
nothing adds to a substrate like straw though

I've grown over a dozen times using straight horse poo I didn't even use a casing layer and I had great results.
Horse poo already has plenty of straw in it adding extra would just make contaminate easier wouldn't it?

the bottom line is that cubes WANT to grow. i've had some massive grows off coir alone. as stated before, experiment and find what works for you.

I was thinking of trying straight coir after seeing some pictures on here but I read it's best to use in high spawn ratios something like 1:3 sometimes 1:2!

staw and poo are both quite contam resistant i'm sure someone will argue, but straw is a terrific substrate
Wolfgang, how thick was your straight hpoo grow? i got cow poo alone to work in a shallow tin tray but it justs compacts itself too much by it's own weight with additives
most hpoo people are going to say, "i don't use cow poo cuz it's such a hassle to have to add verm" well i would deffinitely consider having to go find it in the feild, then dry it or compost it, much harder than having to to add one bag to another bag
also, it seems like it would be a good idea to add verm to horse poo, the same as it is cow poo, so that more water can be held

Guys, it's really embarrassing to keep reading about 'poo'. Isn't that what our moms called it when we soiled our diapers?
Please. . .It's manure.
Cow and horse manure are equally suitable for growing dung and straw loving mushrooms. Getting the texture right is part of the skills of growing. Horse manure is ready to use once it's been field aged. Cow manure works better when fluffed up with verm, coir, straw, etc., but it's all good. RR

Horse manure is so popular because of texture. It's basically half digested straw.
Cow manure has more nutrition but people don't really like it because of its muddy texture, I don't know why...I haven't used the search function on this but I know this for a fact...
Also depends on what the cow/horse is fed.

I vote we call it Ka Ka. So the general consensus is dried field aged horse Ka Ka. Horse being the pile of lumps kinda pile and cow being the giant pancake from hell/lava flow looking stuff.
Interesting fact, when trying to chase cattle back into an enclosure they can shit AT you. So keep your distance gentlemen.
It's for a Portabello grow by the way.

I went up to 6 inches once with amazing results but typically 1-2 inches.

I probably wouldn't use hpoo if I had to go pick it up out of a field. there are several horse stables with in 20 minutes of my house with good aged hpoo piles. I just take a 50 gallon tote or 2 and they'll fill em with a loader

Down in Texas we would go out to the cattle farms/pastures after a warm rain. Watch 'shrooms pop up on the cow patties(poo) right before our eyes. Now check this out--Most zoos do it---, you can go to your city zoo and get composted zoo poo(only herbivores) usually all you want for free (within reason). If your really nice, and play the avid organic gardener type, you can get some specific poo--like elephant or hippo(their digestive systems are very inefficient) the poo looks like it was chewed and spit out. Or you can ask for poo from the grazing animals---giraffe, zebra, and all kinds of crazy antelope species. Trust me, just go to the zoo, ask any employee where you can get the zoo poo--you won't walk away empty handed. Take your own containers, maybe a 5gallon bucket or two. I know this because I used to work at the Cincinnati Zoo, that's why I fucking hate monkeys.
-------------------- Damn! I'm having fun! Just keep the GD monkeys away.
