damnit, did i just overheat them?

Hey everyone, well I made an idiot mistake and I left my space heater on in my room [washington = cold winters :banghead:] which I normally only run a little bit each day for when I wake up. But I got home and my thermometer read around 108 degrees fahrenheit in my fruiting chamber after a 9 hour shift at work.  :whoah: soooo I vented it really quick and noticed 2 things - a) my shrooms have grown quite a damn bit since I left this morning and b) they're getting a little darker coloration, the biggest primordia growing about an inch since I left [on brf cakes by the way, strain is gt as well] but the stem had intense bruising [dehydration i'm sure] but my question is, can the mushrooms recover or are they damaged at this point for sure? Is there a thermal death point for mushrooms?

the darkness may just be the spores from the mushrooms.

YOU KNOW YOU OVERHEATED THEM!! If you're trying to get someone to hold up hope with you that's another thing. Thermal death for mycelium has been established at around 106F. That is not to say that all is lost though. I guess I could be supportive and speculate that the FC took some time to get to those temps and that only the surface mycelium took the hit and that the verm layer served as an insulator to the mycelial network beneath it. I would pick those fruits and re-dunk and roll. While the cake(s) are being dunked, rehydrate the perlite and lets hope for the best.

You're supposed to heat the area around the fruiting chamber to normal room temperature. Run a space heater in the room it's in, not in the FC itself.
