How can this be negative?

I was talking about death (surprise) around some people today and this young woman blurted out, why do you have to focus on something so negative.
My reply was how can something that happens to every single living being be negative?
I think many people have a weird idea about what negativity is.
For instance I worked for many years at a natural foods store. I was talking to a very sweet young girl who works there today and I asked her how her life was going. She said it was going well but busy with work and a new child and going to school and all. I asked her what she was going to school for and she said she was going in to become a pharmacist.
See what I mean?

I know what you mean.
I hear the same thing when I mention that I'm writing a book about the ways different cultures prepare for death and how our culture worships and denies it at the same time.
Many cultures believe the determining factor in what happens after we die isn't the way one lived but how one dies.

The worst is when my mom uses logic like "If you think about it, it will happen to yoU!" Il be like Mom your getting older now, youve been smoking for quite some time. Its probably time you quit. Your lungs must be very black. "YOUR BEING SO NEGATIVE, STOP NAGGING, IF YOU THINK ABOUT CANCER YOULL GET CANCER" For fuck sakes. Her smoking is negative.

negative vs positive as in going in the other direction from any particular flow that being "negative in relation to"
when we eat together it might be inappropriate to discuss shitting in any detail,
though a few minutes later you might be enjoying a good dump; But while the meal "progresses" the idea of shitting could be called negative.
============== your obsession with death can be construed by someone obsessing with something else as counter directional, or negative or shitty while eating. it's just how it goes. poop!

This negativity, and often all negativity, is based on limited vision and understanding. I certainly do not think of it as negative, from any perspective. I think the negative view people have of death, and this is only my opinion, is based on fear. I think they see it as an end, to everything they identify as their "selves". Most people limit there identification to their individual organism, which will have an end and be no more. When I was of that understanding I certainly viewed death with apprehension, so I cannot blame anyone else. The other issue is the death of others, those you care about. I can relate because I very recently lost two of the most important people in my life. Fortunately my understanding contains my feelings about it. They are still here, if it can be shown they were here at all:). But for those of more limited understanding. As I have experienced lately with the all the people who loved the ones I lost just as intensely as I. The death of someone you love, can be absolutely devastating. It is not so hard to understand.

This is most certainly true.

Death could be the most positive thing in our existance. We really don't know shit about after life.

this reminds me of a book entitled "nothing better than death" which i have always been meaning to read but never got around to it. i think what i gathered from the reviews was that it describes many peoples near death experiences in which they said that dying was the best experience of their life and they didn't want to be brought back.
however, i don't think you can blame someone for viewing death as negative. for example, if the parents of a little child die, that can result in a very negative experience for the child. i know that if my mother had died when i was five years old or so, it would have had a very dramatic impact on me and i would have suffered a great deal.

Death is a beautiful mechanism for keeping things young and new.
One example of a positive viewpoint.

"My reply was how can something that happens to every single living being be negative?" Some have more and some have less 'issues' with death

Some people are too weak to deal with loss. Stupidity is the most annoying thing ever. Depending on my mood I may have told that butch to fuck off.

agree with the notion of people fear what they do not know and of course fear loss of others they care about

Death does not have an intent, making it neither positive nor negative, it just is.... A person that thinks of death as negative must be personally uncomfortable with the notion....
I have heard others say that death is the great equalizer.... I consider death to be the great escape clause....

Hmmm, what shall I do today? I know! I will lay in my pine box unmoving just like I did for the last 489 days.
