ThePirateBay.org raided?

Can't seem to connect to thepiratebay.org, and neither can anyone else I know, which leads me to believe they're under another raid of sorts. Does anyone have any information on this?
-------------------- A human being is part of a whole, called by us, the "Universe", a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circles of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.

never tried usenet but i'm satisfied with torrents if they're from private trackers. they're usually well seeded and promise fast downloads.

There still needs to be a tracker and a website for people to share the torrent files. That applies to all bit torrent operations.

My ISP reccently notified me that they had caught me using p2p software and I needed to stop. Is this an alternative to p2p software and will this cause me any problems by using it. Also if you have a link that would be great. I found this: http://www.usenet.net/ but it seems like something you have to pay for.
Please tell me more.

Thanks, but I don't like IP mining scams.
I use emule mostly. Better for porn and it doesn't matter if a server or site goes down. Inbuilt search.

call your ISP and ask what the addresses are for their usenet servers, 99% of ISPs provide usenet free of charge to their customers, after that theres a host of programs that will allow you access to the binaries groups.

I used to love Newsgroups, but I had to stop using them while I was in school because I couldn't afford to spend the money and the .edu network access didn't have their own.
Torrents are just easier for news to use than usenet.

Yep. EMule trumps anything else I've ever used. There are loads of networks, loads of users, multiple fashions of search so you have a trump card if shit hits the fan... and eMule has an awesome collection of books, rare music, and pretty much anything you could ever want.
Torrents suck because they're the MPAA and RIAA's flavor of the month, and thus you are high profile for using them.
From my experience, anything low profile is better when you're doing something illegal.
I don't dig how mercurial torrents are anyhow... and it's too much trouble to get access to a private tracker.
Never have used usenet, but several friends have with great success.

Classic downloading P2P programs like Usenet, Soulseek, emule, etc. They all allow you to download a single file off a single client. Which leads you to having thousands of clients to select a download from. So which one's the correct one? Which one doesn't have corruption, which one is the real file?
p2p, they're fine and dandy for single music files, but when you're downloading anime series, movies, or programs, torrents download at an average of 350-400KBps for me.

This is why you download archives.
I've had nothing but success in the six or so years I've used eMule.
You have the same problems with corruption on torrents anyway. The pirate ethis often generates unscrupulous users that want to fuck with the fun of others.
And, RIAA/MPAA also slam you with corrupt files too, to disrupt productivity of the network... and with torrents being their flavor of the month I could see this being an even bigger problem there.

pris, usenet is a lot older than bittorrent, news servers have been around since the existence of www.wtfever
I just recently started using usenet, got a letter from my ISP saying they were contact by MPAA about my IP, and I should have switched sooner...way better.

If the MPAA can do anything about the non-translated japenese anime I download that's not licensed in the U.S., then I'd like to see them try.
This is a challenge MPAA, get me if you can! Oh noes I DLed another Anime!
Quote:
BurningBeard said: This is why you download archives.
You're still DLing off a single User, just all the files at once, so you don't have to sit there and rightclick, download. (Like the napster client used to make you do, DL each file individually).
On that note XDCC and CTCP on IRC have been around and pwned the pirating industry long before P2P like usenet.

I find a lot of people everywhere enjoy it. I just don't is all.
Though if you want to PM me with some recommendations that don't include subtitles (partially blind you see) then I might be more inclined to give it a go.

never played much with IRC so I know nothing about the speed or reliability, what I do know is that talking with people in real time over a wire is some kind of witchery!

so in other words, you didn't really give it a chance?

That's odd. I swear by BitTorrent. As long as what I find has decent # of seeders, I'm always maxing out my downstream rates.
Of course, nothing beats a solid FTP leech, but finding torrents is much easier.

I love the FTP but with torrents I've never had more than a 256kbps downstream, usenet it's 1.2mbps+, you're only limited by your connection and network usage while you're downloading, while it may take you 6 hours to DL a 4gb movie, I'm pulling it in an hour on DSL
