San Pedro and mold
    #7996800 - 02/08/08 03:46 PM (15 years, 11 months ago)

Hey guys, I just received my San Pedro cacti that was shipped from California. I live in Canada in the cold, and when I got them, they have this type of mold where the cuts were. I'm not sure if the mold is from freezing, or if it is a mold, because i have very little experience with cacti. I plan on cultivating them, not eating them and was just wondering what my best bet would be. I was thinking along the lines of cutting about an inch past the mold, and leaving it until it callouses over again. Then after it callouses I plan to plant it in some dry soil/sand mix, then give it my first watering around spring time. sound like it would work?

But yeah, i ordered 3 12ish inch cuttings, and i ended up getting 4 which was nice. Do they look like the cold got to them? can the cold permanently kill the cuttings? they look fine to me besides the mold. Anyways, thanks for any info guys. Peace

LOL, I´ve never seen something die in a non-permanent way.
Cut it 2 inches above, you don´t wanna risk, it´ll be fine.

yep cut it off just past the mold and let callous, then plant like you had said in dry soil but do not water at all until you have roots.

good luck
