Blue Lotus?
#7995778 - 02/08/08 10:55 AM (15 years, 11 months ago) |

I have a bag sitting in front of me of some Blue Lotus, otherwise known as Egyptian blue lily, sacred lotus, etc. I have never personally tried it, but I've heard that the effects are described as that of a mild sedative in addition to mild psychedelic effects. I plan on making a pot of tea within the next hour
Has anyone here ever had any experiences with the sacred lotus? If so, what method of ingestion did you use? Was the experience enjoyable?

I have used it several different ways.... Don't bother smoking. You have to smoke way too much. Effects are subtle and mostly visual and slightly relaxing..
The best method from my experience, was open a bottle of read win, pour out a bit, and cram about 20grams of dried leaves in and let it set for a couple of hours. then drink the wine.
you can definitley tell when it's done that way. Supposedly that is how the Egyptians did it.

I read that the psychedelic properties included mild CEV's and increased color in vision. Yeah, erowid made no mention of that; got it from wiki. I'm sure the psychedelic part of it is very very mild, if there is any at all
Its mostly sedative though.

When I was into trying all the new botanicals I could get my hands on, I always meditated under a tulip tree where I lived.
What I noticed was that when I looked at this tree, I could see each individual leaf all at the same time. That's the best way I can describe the hallucinations from it. Everything seemed to appear to me as if an artist were looking at it (I'm no artist)
I hope that helps...
It is very subtle. Something to do after church on a sunny day.. lol

Well I don't have any wine or alcohol at the moment, I'm not much of a drinker.
I was thinking about just using the same method for making mushroom tea. Should work right?

Um, possibly... You could just boil the leaves with some lemon juice
However the acids might destroy the alkaloids, im not familiar with blue lotus

I LOVE Lotus!!!
There are two species of psychoactive Lily/Lotus- Nymphaea caerulea and Nelumbo nucifera
Nymphaea is Egyptian orgy Lily.
Nelumbo is Far Eastern meditation Lotus.

i smoked about 3 very very large joints of this, mixed with a tad of herb and tobacco. i would equate the effects to being similar to that of opium. i felt very strange, thats the only way i can describe it. i would definitely go with the titration in wine since the comedown was very unpleasant for me

Hey Omni, I have quite a bit of experience w/ lotus. It's a rather mild sedative effect. Nothing too out of the ordinary.

I like to smoke and drink the tea at once. I hear soaking it in wine works great but if your less than 21 like me than it might be hard to get ahold of that shit.

Like I said earlier, I've tried it numerous times with all the methods reccomended. I didn;t get any effects until I soaked a grip in wine for a spell, then drank the wine. Apparently, thats the most preferred way to do it. I definitley got the effects that way when all the other ones failed.

i have been reading a lot about preparations
i bought a bag of blue lotus, dried flowers, a while ago
and i first tried making a tea
i probably didnt steep it long enough, but i did notice my vision blurring and i easily fell asleep (which is often not the case for me)
i woke up feeling very rested, too
but i want to try the alcohol preparation; i am just wondering why more people dont talk about mixing it with liquor.
i have gin and i also have absinthe (the legal-in-america kind). i want to try mixing them, but is there any reason not to?

It's funny, I was wondering about this just last night.
About 5 years ago, a couple people I knew were making a big deal about this. So, I ordered a bag and tried smoking and eating it. I didn't get any effects at all. So, I gave it to a couple friends. They didn't feel anything either.

I really enjoy blue water lily - its a pleasant sedative/euphoriant that seems to have very mild sensory enhancing properties. I prefer it as a strong tea but have smoked it on occasion. "Blue China" powdered extract is really nice, also.
I haven't been impressed with the American white water lily (N. odorata) or the pink Nelumbo, though.

Blue lotus does have some interesting effects, but those effects go unnoticed by most who try it. The problem is, most people either smoke cannabis or try other, more potent psychedelics frequently, and it gets hard to notice the subtle effects of these other plants.
When exploring new entheogens, I normally abstain from other plants and fast for a day. Following this procedure, I always notice effects from what I experiment with, and all usual psychedelics come on much stronger.

I once had an experience with a mixture of blue lotus white lotus and marijuana smoked out of a bowl after taking 3 very potent hbwr.
The mixture jumped up the open eyed visuals from a something i could see if i tried to a very clear distinct flowing type, which i could still ignore if i chose to. Might have just been coincidence but most of them reminded me of flowers.
I have always smoked weed in combination with lsa and cannot say this effect stemmed from the weed alone.

i drank the mixture over about three hours
i think there was too much absinthe in it, i never even got around to eating all of the lotus...there was about 1/4 ounce in there
but i started drinking / eating the stuff at a park by myself, and it was really pleasant and i could definitely feel the effects..mostly just calm, drunk (which was enhanced, i believe, by the lotus), reflective, and my vision seemed brighter...
i began the day with a headache when i woke up, so this probably wasnt the best time to do this. now i have a really bad headache. that and the fact that i cant stomach "absinthe" anymore because the taste reminds me of a bad experience...
overall, i am still feeling the effects because i drunk this over a long period in small amounts, i think, and i have a bad headache, but it was mostly good...and it seems like putting the lotus in hard liquor is a nice "solution"
i should also note that i enjoyed this much more when i was alone. i went to a music fest for a little while and ran into a bunch of people, and mostly i just felt awkward and irritated and had to leave.

i never finished drinking the stuff i made yesterday
so i cooked the rest of the lotus that had been soaking overnight in liquor into "granola"
it was really tasty...mmm...probably wont do anything, but at least it didnt go completely to waste
i drank a little gin too since most of the alcohol got cooked out..
update...im drinking some gin, very little though, and i feel pretty drunk??? so im thinking the lotus is still working, the granola was good

I brought back 1100 grams of dried lotus from Thailand/Cambodia. I love the stuff. Tastes like heaven and makes you want to sing and you just feel great.
