I just bought freshly picked mushrooms from a friend. She was growing them in her dorm room and all she had to put them in was a newspaper rolled up. They now have a black film on the top of the caps in places. It's easily wiped up and has no strange odor. The stems are also somewhat discolored. Is this a fungus, or just some reaction to the air. Another friend also mentioned that it might be spores?
It could be newspaper ink too. That's just a guess though. If you had a picture someone here would be able to tell you what it was. If the shrooms aren't mushy and don't look or smell strange otherwise than they're probably alright to eat. I'm no expert so don't take my word for it, but It's probably nothing harmful. You're the one eating them so be careful.
-------------------- Say, can I have some of your purple berries?
Yes, I've been eating them, for six or seven weeks now, haven't got sick once.
