ID Request (South India) [better pictures]

Hey guys. I'm in South India now, Kodaikanal (near madurai) to be exact. We bought some shrooms from a guy on the street today. We paid 400rps, around 8 euros. He told us they were mexican but the only species I know are mexican and they don't look like this in Holland. They grow next to the street here, until august or september if I remember correctly. So my questions are: do these look like magic mushrooms to you? and how much do you think i should to get a decent trip? would half be enough (i'm with a friend)? Thanks.
PS Also he told us to drink a coffee after about half an hour when you feel the first effects to make the trip stronger. I never heard about this, any thoughts about it?

Edit: Here are some better pictures

No, sorry. I didn't see any bruising, and they look very dry.

They kind of look like cubensis, but it's hard to tell through the bag. They dry them so they don't rot, and keep longer, so the dryness isn't a problem. So, no blueish bruises whatsoever huh? Look near the base of stems. Like implee said, the only way anyone will be able to id those is if you take em out of the bag and get a closer pic, and even then it might be hard. Oh yeah, cute lighter.

They are definitely not Ps. cubensis.
Please try and take them out of the bag, and get a few good, up-close photos of the mushrooms.
It can be extremely difficult to ID dried mushrooms.

Quite true xmush. If you can't drink the water in most places, i wouldn't chance eating a magical mushroom.

We will definitely need some close up macro shots to see if those are active. If your camera has a little flower icon, use it.
The thing about coffee is a really bad sign. A stimulant is the last thing you want to mix with psychedelics, it will lead to a really uncomfortable trip. My guess is they are not active at all, and the coffee would provide some placebo activity so you wouldn't be able to tell quite as easily that they are bunk.
I guess he is claiming they are Psilocybe mexicana, but they clearly are not. P. mexicana is a much smaller species.

I regularly mix stimulants with hallucinogens. Not large quantities of stimulants (either amphetamine and/or caffeine), but I don't find the effects interfere much with psilocybin mushrooms. That's just me.

I looked at the new pictures and I still don't see any blue or greenish stains that would indicate that you have a psilocybin containing mushroom.
The gills do look black so there is a small chance it is an active Paneaolus species, but I would not recommend eating them as they are unlikely to make you trip and might be random poisonous mushrooms.
When you get the right ones you will notice blue stains, even when the mushrooms are dried.

Yep, definitely not cubensis. The black gills suggest they may be panaeolus, but they don't look like one of the potent panaeolus, because there's no bluing. I guess they could be inactive panaeolus'. You'd probably have a better chance finding psychoactive mushrooms growing in the wild there. It's such a poor country that any street vendor would just be trying to get money the easiest way possible.

There is a 0% chance that this is Psilocybe laurae - That species is very rare and has only been reported in Mexico.
You obviously have no idea what this mushroom is, so please don't tell people that its "good stuff".
Since no blueish stains are apparent in this picture, I would not advise eating them.

the only trip you will take if you eat those is to a indian hospital buddy which is not fun at all....i wouldn't trust them if i were you in south india i would be searching for some nice charas they go for 15 euros there which is 10 grams quite nice way to spend the day
oh and dont get caught 10 years in an indian jail is most likely not the way you want to spend a decade

Hey, the mushies you got is definitely psilocybe,, not sure of the type though, they are just really dry and old, it could have given you a 'trip' or maybe not, if you could consume about 10 or 12 of them,,these species of psilocybes and amanita muscarias grow pretty wild all around K and you could pick them yourself if you visit the pine forests down here during the rainy seasons..but does anyone know how to consume amanitas and not get any of the bad side effects? sorry to ask you here..and yeah, psilocybes are widely available and could get you in jail if your caught here.not many people know anything about amanita muscarias but..and charas is not so easily available in south as they are in the north but grass is so cheers!

A. You are incorrect. The pictures do not indicate these are active mushrooms.
B. Please do not reply to old threads. I think there is a warning not to do so before you post. If not, please take this under consideration.
C. Welcome to the Shroomery. Feel free to create your own thread requesting identification.
