18 Days in and finally something comforting, how does it look?

I inoculated 5 of these guys with B+ spores back on the 21st on January. They're straight brf + vermiculite jars (jars, whatever). Even though it's coming a little bit later than I would have hoped, an update is here. All five jars seem to be colonizing around the points of inoculation. I think it took this long due to the jars being far too wet and having far too few and too small breathing holes. As far as I can tell, they seem to be drying out a bit and have yet to be contaminated, so yay. Here are some pics, hope they look alright.

Ahh yeah, one question. Should I be worried about light bringing on early pinning if i pull them out for a few seconds to check them out? I'd assume not since it seems to be so commonplace, but can't hurt to ask.

looks like a good start, as for light and early pinning, I've incubated bags on my desk many times with only a few early pinners

Are those trays sealed? That looks like an interesing method. Looking at that, it would be interesting to PC a tray with Coir and Brf or something with a verm layer and see if that would incubate well. It would certainly cut out a step in the process.

I'm not sure if they could stand up to a PC, I found a bunch of warnings saying to avoid boiling in general. I went for the microwave, so this was super low tech (my first run, ever). They're sealed in that they have plastic tops on, I'm assuming they were air tight at some point, but then I stabbed them to allow some air flow .
And other than giant rocks of vermiculite, there is brown rice flower mixed in.

A bump for a quick question. (All is still going well with the jars, they looked about 30% colonized last I checked, I've vowed to not check again until Friday.)
Is that vermiculite of a decent size? I ordered a cambodian syringe when I found perefect (!) half pint glass jars in the hardware store. I suppose I could get a new bag of verm, but this seems to be working pretty well. It's the "giant rocks of verm" comment here that sticks out in my mind, so any input on if it really matters?

They work fine in the PC. an hour at 15 psi and my ziplock tubs of WBS were fine.

good question. Fear of experimentation because most posters come for a batch or two of PF cakes and then hang their mycology cap in the closet.

Ahh cool, that is very interesting... I hadn't heard any experiences, just guessed based off of warnings I saw around on the interwebs.

crasher: would you put your stamp of approval on ziplock tubs? it seems like they are easier to find over wide mouth jars.

Pics of loading and PC'ing. They're currently incubating with an agaricus species. if they colonize fine, that'll be my stamp of approval.
I used micropore tape, lets see how she do.
