Straw + What...

I'm looking at growing 4 bulk containers of 80% straw, spawned with WBS, and then each with 20% of something to add nutrients. I want to keep things simple and only one or two added ingredients per container. I want to compare the results. I would prefer to try off-the-shelf ingredients I can buy in bags at the garden center or out of bulk bins at the health food store (I will try poo from the field at a later time). I am not stuck on the 80/20 ratio but it sounds good to me since the straw is relatively cheap.
What are your suggestions?
Guano? Organic compost? Coir? Flax? What?

Straw is hard to beat by itself. You don't need to add anything. RR

straw comes from cereals (wheat, rye ect.) hay comes from wild grasses like switch grass and includes any other grasses growing in the area that the hay is harvested.
straw will all be the same kind of stalk, because it is harvested from a field where straw is the primary form of vegetation
hay is usually different types of stalks from many wild grasses, thus straw is more consistent in its nutrient content and its ability to retain moisture. imo these are there primary reasons straw is better than hay. happy growing.

Cool, I'll certainly be having one control that is 100% straw then.
Not that I would dare disagree with RRs depth and level of experience but I still want to experiment a bit...my idea is to try a few different grains, commercial composts, or coir in this round and then move on to farm animal poo once I figure out sources.
Seems to me that the consensus is that horse poo with fire fang is the ultimate medium for mycelium.
Can you compare straw and horse poo at all as mediums for fruiting cubs?

I ran out of money and couldn't resist the allure of the dung.
I've been driving by a small horse ranch to the grocery store for years. I didn't want to choose a local source. Just to satisfy my healthy paranoia but the poop magnetism was just too strong!
I stopped in and they pointed me to all the free poo I was prepared for and much more for free. It couldn't have been easier. The guy even refused my money. There still are nice people in the world :o)
Since I have such a plentiful supply of poo, I think I'm gonna mix it with a percentage chopped straw for texture and then experiment with one additive at a time. I hope to achieve a very high degree of overall consistency so the results have at least some meaning (since not broad enough to draw scientific conclusions)...
I am most excited to try adding azomite but I can't afford to order any for this round. Maybe I can find a local source but I've never heard of it being sold that way.
I am going to analyze the content of natural horse poo, straw (mostly cellulose I believe), and then experiment with various additives...always with a control...or maybe two controls...
