Hi, I just wanted to share some pics of my indoor oyster bags.

They opened up with nice form compared to other indoor oysters I've seen.

Those are some really nice pics! Good eats to you sir, what ratio did you use? or weights if that's how you measured.

Thanks! I used a 3lb bag of rye to spawn both bags, maybe 20% ratio if I had to guess. The pics are from New Years actually, I have some larger bags that I'm trying the same thing with but they seem to be drying out pretty bad. They were tasty cooked with butter, salt and pepper. I made some spaghetti sauce too but the texture kinda ruined it, too slimy. edit: Heres the chef inspecting first flush!

Nice. Care to tell us how you prepared the cardboard and coffee grinds? How long to colonize, fruiting temps, etc. They're definitely firm for indoor oysters. Cute chef, looks to be the age of my two grand daughters. RR

I first put about 2-3 quarts water in my PC, bring to boil along with a tea kettle full of water on another burner. I throw the cardboard strips and grounds in PC and pour the kettle over them. Turn off heat and put the lid on. In the morning when its all cool I squeeze out excess water and bag the substrate in layers with spawn. Put plenty of slits in the bag and colonize them sideways in my closet at room temp. When I'm happy with the colonization progress I soak 'em overnight in the sink. First flush was produced in my closet with light from the window and a fluorescent bulb. The second flush they opened up much better since I hung them near my kitchen window which is always open. The mycelium shrank a lot after the second flush so I removed the bags and buried them in a houseplant:
 Simple and fun!

Here's some more pics:
These are the bigger bags I was talking about.
 The nicer specimens.
I went ahead and dehydrated most of 'em, I think they actually taste better this way. It might be good to make a salad and crunch some on top with some bacon bits.

Very impressive sir! If I could rate you twice I would. I've avoided large grows of oysters cause I heard they don't dry well. I'll dry out my next little batch and give it a try larger if they agree with me (and my cooking!)

You're so nice, thanks. I can't wait to get a little library of cultures and start trading/experimenting more. I love this stuff, and I live in the desert, kinda ironic. It makes me happy that someone takes an interest in my hobby. My girlfriend is ambivalent about it at best. I just find it amazing that from less than a dollars worth of birdseed one can recycle coffee grounds and cardboard into food in very little space. What is wrong with the world, why aren't we focusing on sustainable living? The environment is going to poopy. I could go on, but I'll spare everyone for now. Different edible pics to come in the near future I hope. Best wishes:)
