Im just about to put my cakes into the fruiting chamber & i was wondering if i needed to put perlite down. The tek i em following says i can use wet paper towels instead of perlite. So i really have two questions i guess, could i remove the paper towels a few days into fruiting and put in moisten perlite then? and/or is it ok to just leave the wet towels in for the entire fruiting process?(or even just the first flush) thanks

the paper towels wont release moisture into the air the same way perlite does... or at least not nearly effectively.
wait a few days to birth your jars and find yourself some perlite.

I would recommend perlite for better results however if you really cant get a hold of it I would say yes use paper towels temporarily and periodically spray your FC with a fine mist GL

wet paper towel is no good. It certainly will contaminate in the bottom of your fruiting chamber under high humidity conditions. Don't add paper towel.
Use a mister to keep the humidity up. You can go without perlite for a couple days as long as you keep the humidity up manually. But get the perlite ASAP. It helps out a ton for humidity.

i disagree, i don't believe paper towels will contaminate much easier than anything else, you just need to switch them out every few days
HOWEVER, like large_dose said, paper towels do not perform the same way perlite does, you will not get the same or even similar levels of humidity. i wouldnt suggest using paper towels unless they are used to soak up extra condensation in a martha setup or something similar
use perlite or an equal rock substitute, wait a few extra days to birth the cakes if you have to

Perlite is best of course. If you don't have it, paper or cloth towels work fine. I've used them in pinches for years. Wring them out of excess moisture, and make sure they're fluffed up in the terrarium. You can even paste them to the sides. They won't contaminate for weeks, so if you change them for fresh every few days, you'll be fine. RR
