First Attempt: 10 Days and no mycelium
    #7992108 - 02/07/08 03:04 PM (15 years, 11 months ago)

This is my first attempt at growing mushrooms. I ordered Cubensis B+ strain off of sporeworks.com. I used vermiculite and brown rice flour as my substrate. It has been ten days since inoculation and I still do not see any mycelium growth. Where the jars are stored, the temperature says 66 degrees. Also I think the inside of my jars might be a little too wet compared to the pictures off of the PF-Tek.

Here are two pictures, I don't know if it will really help.

So, could it be that maybe they are too wet? The spores didn't work? Or it is too cold?

those do look too wet...
was the substrate fluffy when you put it into the jars prior to sterilization?
you want it fluffy and not clumpy, theres a difference.

The spores were probably fine if you did everything right.
66 degree's is pretty cold for incubation of those jars
there would definately be a noticable difference in colonization time...
if the temps were in upper 70s at least.

I'm also new to this. On my first (PF Tek with B+) attempt I did not see anything till 15 days.
If you followed Tek instructions you should see something by then.
The hardest part for me was the waiting.

yea wait a bit longer....waiting is the hardest things for us noObz to do, but its well worth it.

mine took around 15 days to see ANY mic.

use a coffee filter to prevent contams from reaching ur substrate..that is of course if u didnt use a dry VERM layer..

the jars look fine, they are not too wet.
It has only been 10 days at 66 degrees. That is 20 degree colder than normal. make the jars a little warmer if you can but I would not go out of my way to set up some elaborate incubator. They will be just fine at that temp but they will take a little longer.

B+ is known to germinate a little slower also. So leave them alone and look at them agian in 10 more days

Stop experimenting half way through your first grow. Grow it to maturity, watch it, learn from it. Do this a few times then experiment with different ideas and figure out what works best for you.

Either your hands are giant or that jar is small.

This is my grow with the same spores from the same shop, at 18 days.

I guess it can just take a good amount of time, sometimes.  I've been doing my best to not check them constantly and keep my mind on other things.
The whole patience thing sounds pretty necessary for this hobby

It was clumpy. Will it still colonize if it was clumpy or should I try again?

And thanks for all the replies guys!
