Today I accidentally stumbled upon a single Clathrus Crispus specimen while I was working outdoors in South Central Florida. A very interesting specimen with a very interesting odor. Did I say interesting? I mean absolutely repulsive.
Anyway, I took some pictures for you guys, because despite the smell, it really is a beautiful mushroom.

Nice find Chi Ro. Thanks for sharing.
"Columned Stinkhorn".
They typically are not found in such pristine condition in that area.

That doesn't look like Clathrus crispus....
Like GGO said, it looks more like C. columnatus, however, this even looks a little different. It has weird ridges, and has a few "coronas", which is not typical of C. columnatus...
Probably a different species. Maybe just a deformed specimen, but it sure doesn't look like either of the two above mentioned species:

This Species is cool in many ways. When it erupts flies land on it and hatch their eggs, Resulting in the fly's helping to spread the spores. Cool Huh? Auweia told me that when we were hunting.

Yes.. you know you are right CureCat.
After having a second look at them they do look different then what i remember.
That makes them a extra cool find imo.
I have found Columned Stinkhorns thousands of times in that area, but I had never observed the pronounced ridges feature that you mentioned.
Chi's are extra vibrant/colorful also, very tropical.

And a book published in 2007 calls them Linderia columnata (Bosc) G. H. Cunningham.
They (professional taxonomists who must drink coffee all day long) changed the genus (or just created a new one?).
And the species name was changed also.
But Chi must have found something other then that.
