What is the best ratio of H2O2 for Cob Web
    #7991089 - 02/07/08 10:41 AM (15 years, 11 months ago)

Two weeks ago my friend screwed up on his first cakes by adding too much water to the the mixture. He realized this right after inoculting the jars and rather than waisting time with potential contams due to the high moisture, he dumped and washed all the jars that day except for one. He emptied that jar outdoors and there seems to be some mycilium growing along with what appears to be cob web. (really not sure what is growing that's why I attached photos)

I've been searching for awhile on the right ratio using 3% hydrogen peroxide to get rid the Cob Web. I've read some suggesting no dilution at all, other at a ratio of 10:1 and one suggesting 20:1 (I think that one was to prevent mold) Which one is the best ratio?

That cake is well beyond peroxide. Bury it into a manure pile and it might recover if it's not too cold outside in your area. Indoors, use 3% peroxide to control cobweb mold.

RR thanks for the reply, I understand you said these are far gone. But for future cob web what would you suggest to dilute 1 part to 10?
Thanks,

No. I said use 3% peroxide. You would only dilute it 10 to 1 if you purchased 30% peroxide.

The peroxide you normally buy is already 3%

I realize it's 3%. I thought that I would need to dilute it from the bottle. For instances I know before inoculation I read to use Lysol or a bleach solution with a dilution of 1 part bleach to 10 parts water. (Bottled bleach is usually around 3% as well but one would dilute it from the bottle) So am I correct that if I were to spray for cob web mold I would use the peroxide straight out of the bottle and not dilute it.

One other question, is there any good mycelium in the photos I posted? I've looked at a lot of photos in the gallery section but I'm still not sure what it should look like in person. The cake was crushed and then dumped outside. Around a week later it was covered with some extra BRF from a new project.
Thanks
Thanks
