This plant is extremely healthy except for these two new leaves. I don't know what its from or what to make of it.

Thanks. I think it'll be okay too. I'm wondering more about the texture.

Could be a deformity, too much light or fertilizer. Those are just guesses though, I think they can cause deformities on salvia leaves.

get a magnifing glass and look ontop and on bottom of the leaf, if you see bugs you have your answer...if not you eliminated one

Yup... tiny tiny tiny white bugs. Would safer(sp) soap work on those guys?

sounds like spider mites, safer soap is your best bet in my experience. Spray it about once a week for 2 months striaght. Watch for burning of the plant and adjust accordingly
if you don't spray constistintly as mentioned above, all you will kill is the adult spider mites, the eggs will hatch and repopulate.
Spider mites are pretty much the equivilent of the plague or the borg.

actually if you do a search for spider mites you will find their life cycle, you should look to see how long for the egg's to hatch , i think its 4-5 days so you may need to spray 2x a week or however many you can get away with, without damaging the plant to much

i have used safer soap sprays many times with very bad results, i even had a bunch of plants die and the safer brand sprays kill cacti/succulents .
best stuff i have used is Avid , magash told me about it and i got some and it works great.

And with any soap you use on sallies, you should make sure to give the leaves a good flush to remove the soap after the soap serves its purpose. Soap can clog up the stomata, restricting the ability of the leaves to absorb moisture. This could be a risky for a plant that likes as much humidity as salv. div.

maybe safer refined their formula, i recently sprayed a few months ago according to the back of the bottle and i just had minor burning of the leaf tips. But it killed the mites instintly, its the dam eggs that keep hatching and then reproducing that makes mites so hard to get rid of
also safer has many different types of sprays so many some are stronger than others/ more damaging to certain plants, the one that i used was for roses
#1 tips when using sprays is to test just one leaf and see what happens first, then spray the entire plant after you know the results

enzyme sprays are the BEST. they dissolve the exoskeletons of insects and dissolve the eggs too. bye bye bugs the other spays bugs can develop a resistance and create superbugs. not good at all what kills superbugs??? ENZYME SPRAYS

yes it is called Bugzyme
and cactiguy.. I actually pasted the text from the description of the product. I am no spokesman but I know for a fact enzymes kill bugs. Look up "Enzyme cleaner and bugs" theres lots of products like that one. look up kleen free enzyme cleaner. I dont know what Box Elder bugs are but I bet it would work. If not try Diatomaceous Earth for another non pesticidal product. That one slices their exoskeletons open and they bleed out their insides and die.

hahah...
I also recommend running the plant under water to rinse away as many bugs/eggs as you can before applying your insecticide. I've actually watered my soil with safer's soap to clear it up. I've had it work without killing the plant. I agree it's not very orthodox, but the outcome was positive.
