RAVE Act

I don't know that this is the proper place for this...
But back in 2002 they passed the RAVE Act which was like a crackhouse law, charging up to $250,000, and 20 years in jail to anyone found running an event with drug use in a nutshell.
There were many crackdowns around that time, but since then things seem to be running smoother without the unwanted heat in some areas.
Does anyone know anything about this? There are some legal events I want to host, but I cannot guarentee that anyone or everyone wont be taking drugs.

This is what you are looking for I think..

FYI, Ron Paul was the only presidential candidate to vote AGAINST the rave act.
-------------------- "A human being is part of a whole, called by us the Universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separated from the rest--a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circles of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty." -Al Einstein

Nope... the Rave Act didn't pass. However, the Illicit Drug Anti-Proliferation Act which was based upon the Rave Act did pass the next year (in 2003). From what I remember, the big change was the requirement to show intent of the property owner to have or distribute controlled substances. The original act only required controlled substances to be present in order to incriminate the property owner.

Check it out with the local police dept. They have a pretty good understanding about these issues, and you will most likely need a permit from them anyway.

You can throw parties legally easily but there are certain stipulations. Obviously if you're trespassing that party will be shut down immediately. Also most large cities and some counties have ordinances about public gatherings, generally this requires a permit for any gathering over a hundred people. Most cities and counties also have limits on noise pollution or require a permit to operate a stereo system over a given dB.
Those are you #1 areas of concern, beyond that many cities have laws prohibiting DJ's from playing, or for charging admission to hear a DJ play after 2a.m.(My city has a law like this.) Also there are various other local and regional laws which may apply reguarding the sale / use of glowsticks, vicks inahlers, masks etc. Also in some places you must carry a permit to sell water, and obviously you need a permit to sell alchohol, and your party can be shut down if under age persons are visibly consuming or intoxicated by alcohol at your party.
Generally as long as you're not trespassing or creating a public nuisance the cops are going to leave you alone. If they do make an appearance make sure you have a sober, responsible, friendly person to talk to the cops(I don't know how many times I've walked into an insane warehouse party while the cops were hanging outside bullshitting with some of the promoters.)
I wouldn't ask a cop for advice about throwing raves though. They are known to lie, it makes them 'better' at their job. Half the time the cops don't even know the law that well, only the really important parts. Goto your local county bar association and get some legal advice, here you can get 30 minutes of legal council for 20 bucks. Good luck with your endeavors. -MOR P.S. Raves are kinda passe, you should check out a psytrance party.

"Hello, Police? This is Fred, I just had a question for ya'll.. I'm organizing a large rave-like party where mass quantities of people may be using illegal drugs and whatnot.. I just wanted to make sure you guys are down with that, hit me up ASAP thanks.."
