What kind of water are you using in your brew?

Pretty much self explanatory, just trying to figure out if tap or bottled is preferred, and whether or not anyone uses rain barrels to collect, as I had considered that idea as well. Thanks.

What is 'STAL'?
I use distilled water for my beer. It turns out great every time.

I read somewhere that distilled water couldn't be used because it lacked nutrients or some shit...

Nope, that 'SF' in my name must be misleading, it has nothing to do with geographical location. I just looked up their website and I suddenly wish I was living in California.
I buy all of my brewing supplies from a local micro-brewery. Their prices are unbeatable! I have also heard that using distilled water is not the best idea but I also have never heard any conclusive evidence that it lacks vital nutrients for the beer (seriously, the yeast seems to be fine just eating sugar). I also have no reason to stop this practice of mine as my local tap water is HORRIBLE and it's too cheap to not take advantage of the fill it yourself water dispensers at the grocery store.

It's kind of like tea.
Start with good water and (if done right) end with good beer.

It depends on whether the recipe calls for water with low or high mineral content. Pre boiled tap water is preferable if you've got good tap water. You could also use distilled water and add your own minerals.

I personally use RO(reverse osmosis) water. Doesn't strip out everything like distilled(wouldn't recommend using). Depending on what style of beer you are looking to achieve, using different salts to adjust the mineral content.
Using municipal sources are fine, but it depends on where you live. Colorado has good water, which is a reason why there's a lot of breweries. New York also has very good municipal water.
