First off those poor teens were underpaid in my opinion  Thats riskey fucking buisness.

Second off whever you guys hear a case on the news, or articles on the web or news papers.....you will hear the supposed "Criminals" say things like

"Im sorry for the acts ive performed"
"Im aware of the danger i put those children in"
"I just hope that society will forgive me im a changed man"

Keep in mind that people say those things before they go to sentencing. I highly doubt that after being sentenced to 10 years that boy said "Only now do i realize the immaturity of that situation"

When in the courts they will scare you shitless with charges, prison time, and fines. While you are going through all this you are probally
the most "Scared" you will be in your life. However the word "Scared" doesnt even come close to describing the feeling you get when going through a serious court case. Deep down you are praying that the judge will see that you arnt a bad guy and that you are getting in trouble over a harmless substance like Marijuana.

I was lucky. I got a second chance and very fortunate that I got all 7 felonies, 2 of them strikes off my record (Except 1 felony).

But remember that whoever you are and whenever your friends or family are in the court system. They will stack charges up the ass, they do this to scare you and so that hopefully a charge will stick. I feel bad for this kid. I really do, but 10 years seems intense to me for the type of case this is. He may of fucked up, been a snitch, ect.
whatever you wanna call him just realize that the reason a person is snitching, or a reason a person is begging for societys forgiveness, please understand the courts are putting that person through hell. Its like being sucked into a black vortex of bad shit and praying not 1 thing flying around you doesnt fuck up your life for good.

HOpe this was informative or helps

Exactly. Its a scare tactic. They stack up all the charges that could possibly apply in hopes that youll plead to one of them so they don't even have to work to put you away.

It works a lot of the time, as seen here.

well, also it gives them bargaining chips. If they charge you with possesion of marijuana and possesion of drug paraphanalia (lesser offense here), they'll dismiss the pot charge and cop you to the paraphanalia charge. Makes them and the lawyer look like they're doing something for you, when really they're just fucking you the same as you'd be fucked anyways
