I used to go to the "Dark Side of Oz" showing at the Bloor theatre in Toronto every few weeks with my buddies.. that was some of the best times of my teen years.. the theatre would be completely hotboxed and people smoking bongs and pipes in their seats and there'd always be one or two people who were trippin' too hard or drinking too much and they'd puke and everyone in that little area would have to move to another area :mushroom2:

yeah, some parts fit amazingly well, like when the pony is changing colours and when Money starts

Is it a fact that this was intentional??
I've known about this for years, and as far as I know it's purely coincidence.

If it was really meant to go together, don't you think the album would have gone the entire lenght of the movie?

It works pretty well for the sections I saw. Maybe it's just some clever editing though.

I think you're supposed to play the album twice during the entire length of the movie, and it fits pretty well. But no, I highly doubt it was intentional.

I was referring to this:

I doubt they had anything to do with it. Which to me makes it much more amazing.
In my high school days me and my friends used to get stoned, watch TV on mute and listen to music, and we'd always catch parts that would sync up perfectly. Sometimes the actor's lips would even sync up to the words in the song. It's great because you would never be able to experience it again.
This just happens to be with a well-known album and a well-known film. Some kid watched Baraka with The Flaming Lips' At War With The Mystics and it's equally astounding.

From what I can remember of this particular night it was new years 2002 I was 19 .
Me and my brother and his g/f took some mdma and went for ride around until it kicked in ..while listing to the radio a certain station was going to play floyds DSOTM to wizard of oz which was going to play on AMC /a television channel
When we found out about this we made it back home ,shot off some fireworks the cops came, told us we were not in the legal county to shoot fireworks especially rockets ,We got away ..managed to make it safely back to a buddys apartment to watch dark side of oz ...
such a wonderful night , I haven't had mdma since then ..

I tried to do it again a couple years ago on mushrooms but never got far into it because of roommates and such ..

Yea, definitely not intentional, but it is cool how some of the parts sync up.

I think the Great Gig in the Sky into Money is the best match up with the whole movie.  That's during the tornado scene and then when the film turns to color. Awesome:thumbup:

it only works the first time around imo. was boring as hell to me after it played through once, maybe i wasn't high enough.... but im pretty sure the musical synchronicity stopped after the first play thorugh...

That's what I was thinking, 'great gig in the sky' and the house flies up :tripping:

Pretty cool. I agree its not intentional, too much doesn't match up, much more than the stuff that coincidentally does (and even then its just a little )

I never really thought this was all that great in fact I think it's highly overrated. I would rather just listen to the album in a lightly lit room, and relax.

I agree!

Sure some bits and pieces spookily match up - but for the most part the music really doesn't fit the images at all!

"Echoes" lined up with the last section of 2001 (Jupiter & Beyond)- now they compliment each other quite nicely (ish).

This hurts my brain the same way that it hurts when people in the Psychedelic Experience say that "DMT is released when you die" as if it were a fact and not a theory. No one knows if Floyd did it intentionally. Except them, I guess.

They've even denied that they did this intentionally. When they wrote Great Gig In The Sky they were thinking of Sid, not the fucking wizard of oz. My favorite movie sync is Stinkfist matched up to the beginning of Nightmare Before Christmas.

I think its very very unlikely that Pink Floyd intentionally created Dark Side of the Moon to sync up perfectly with the wizard of oz.  The album itself is a masterpiece, and is perfect--I just think creating that masterpiece AND making sure it synced up to a film (and remember, they would have had to use old editing technology--physical cutting of tape and what not) would be too tall an order.

My Uncle has been a hollywood film editor since the early 80's.  He's a huge floyd fan (took me to see waters AND gilmour last year :yesnod:)  Based on his experience with editing, he's convinced it couldn't have been done.

It's never officially been released onto dvd, but there are a bunch of torrents around that already have it all synced up.
