Looks like a nice setup... How would you have got the water content on the WBS off?.. You using Doc's tek?

Very nice set up! A couple of things.....Is your perlite already hydrated? Also, I would recommend you dropping the ambient temp about 5 degrees or more.

This was my first try at WBS obv.. shit that brf is my 1st jar ever, so we'll see.
The wbs jars have no "puddles" I can see slight moisture on the sides, its very slight and not very widely spread. The seeds are almost twice as large as dried seeds and that's what worries me. Also, one jar has a small tic-tac sized white spec on bottom of jar, stuck, I don't know but I bet someone will say it might be yeast in the days to come...

My brf jars showed myc at 5 days, I bought from sporeworks, used pe on brf jars and equador on wbs. On average how long before you "should" see signs of myc on the wbs? I shot about 1.25cc per pint in center and shook..

I agree, drop temperature 5 degrees. You never need to be above 80, even during fruiting.

why does everyone suggest 86F while incubating?
I did however drop to 81f earlier this morning.

You don't even need to incubate. Room temperature is just fine. Any experienced grower will tell you this

I've never had much luck with spores in wbs. Hopefully you will have better. I use lc or clone juice, works great. I think you are probably ok on your moisture content, it should look a little dry. The moisture is in the grain. I agree that you should drop the temp a little. The substrate tends to be a little warmer than ambient temp, and there is no reason to push it past 80 degrees F. You will encourage yuck to grow at high temps. Good luck.

That hygrometer you have there is junk... I would recommend an analog cigar humidor hygrometer (calibrated of course).

You're fine, the moisture on the wall of the jar is A okay.
You wanted to increase the seeds water content until almost bursting..if you have minimal bursting and your seeds are swollen, you are good my friend.
I usually simmer mine around 25 minutes..when I hit that mark I check the seeds by squeezing them between my thumb and index finger. Determining water content before it starts cracking them. I take them out when they get pretty easy to squash.
I usually see growth on WBS between 5-10 days.. I've learned to be patient. Very helpful in this hobby.
I think you'll be fine... good luck!
PS: I've found that "shaking" the WBS when 5-10% colonized to be bad..I've stalled and completely demolished mycelium by doing this.. You want your birdseeds water content to be that you can roll the jar and the birdseed is loose enough to to just roll free. Leaving enough water content for the mycelium to survive and enough air in between the seeds that it can breath and in turn give you optimal growth speeds.
You'll learn in time what exactly your right water content is...
GL and happy shrooming!

Feb 8, 08 update
Check this pic out, looks to me like little specs of myc bloomin'... Looks like little round balls with micro fibers sprouting out in 360deg, is it healthy or it is something that shouldn't be there? I knocked these up on Monday Feb 4th with ms syringe of equador from sporeworks. Thanks for taking the time to give me your thoughts.
