so i have a mirro pc with the rubber seal between the lid and base. is it recommended or has anybody done it with good results to put a light layer of vaseline on the rubber to help prevent leaking (which mine likes to do)
if so where do you apply the vaseline?
on both sides of the rubber? or on the metal?
thanks guys

I lightly lube the rim of my AA PC, but it's metal on metal.
Are you supposed to lubricate rubber with petroleum products? there is a reason you're not supposed to use vaseline with latex condoms.
I think some auto parts stores sell rubber gasket 'revitalizer' for lack of a better term, maybe that would be better.
I'll be honest, that was all just opinion.

Check the manufacturer instructions. I believe vegetable oil is recommended, but find out for sure before using it. Vaseline can cause the gasket to swell up, ruining it. Use vaseline on the metal to metal seal on AA pressure cookers. RR

Applying lubricant such as cooking oil should be done by removing the rubber gasket and gently coating the entire gasket. Then replace.
This should have been done from the beginning. The lubricant helps the rubber gasket from drying out and cracking, (which will eventually happen), due to the intense heat. If you find that you're loosing pressure through the sides, then it might be time to buy a replacement gasket. Fairly cheap! Just a bummer to have to order it and wait for it.

i dont have the instructions because it was a yard sale find. so i had no idea about the veggie oil.
i have 6 grain jars needing pc'n too. might have to refill the water half way through.
-is it okay to add more water than 1/2 - 3/4" so i wouldnt have to refill it halfway through?.

do not use anything PETROLEUM based. peanut oil or other non petroleum based lubricant is good. i use Pam cooking spray and peanut oil anytime i want to lube my rubbers.

Sure. Just make sure you elevate the jars most of the way out of the water. You don't want what splashes around during boiling to get past the filters and into your jars. Don't stop to add water in the middle. Remember to turn down the heat on the stove when pressure is reached. RR
