this is one jar that i have. with little white dots and rr told me it was yeast.
my question is- how does yeast get into my jars?
also is it bad if i have jars that are just about fully colonized and there is just a couple white specs on maybe 1-2 grains. can i still keep them or will the eventually contam when i spawn them?

There are only 3 vectors. The grain, the spores or the air.
You may be able to fruit the somewhat contaminated grain directly, but don't use any questionable jars as spawn.

Those are some really clear pics of that yeast- the conditions they are posted under... not so good...
Like workman said, spawning with bad jars just isn't good- mostly ever.
I would dump out some of the spawn and mix it up with some field capacity hydrated vermiculite and let it fruit out directly from the jars.
I did that on a contamed wheat jar, layed it on its side and cracked the lid. It worked.

Civ- that's neat how you got that contamed jar to fruit like that.
i easily tossed out the jar in the picture above.
the other 4 jars i had that had minimal specs of yeast on a couple grains (i thought) i gave a good shaking too and they are recolonizing very nicely. i looked at them this morning and dont see any specs of yeast on them anymore. im not even sure if there was yeast on the 4 jars it was so small, my eyes could of been playing tricks on me.
what do you guys think? safe now? or is just the yeast in the middle?
ill still do what you suggested though CIV.
