I couldn't find any place to put this, but I figure I'm looking for an ID what better place, but I notice this guy this morning. His long nose made him look peculiar . I think this might be a kind of nut-hatch but I'm not too sure. He was eating a mix of sun/saff/corn seeds.

I am going to go with a male Sitta carolinensis (white-breasted nuthatch).
Nuthatches are really cool birds, a lot more fun to watch than most. Did he use his head as a hammer to crack that seed open?

Bird whisperer!!! That is a crazy shot. I don't think it's a nuthatch. Their beaks have a slight upward curve. I think it's a gnatcatcher. Maybe a blue-gray gnatcatcher.

I think this is a better place for bird ID's than the pub, they probably would have gotten it wrong.

If the original poster really was so keen about ID'ing the bird, there is plenty of birdwatchers forums on the internet. If he wants to share some photos with Shroomerites, I don't see what's wrong with The Pub, personal journal or galleries, or Mushroom Grow Logs and Pictures.

snoot, thanks for sharing your photographs. I like the images with the wings and feathers in action.
This hunting forum is for wild mushrooms. This forum is for birds.
They are natural carriers and distributors of fungi spores, but this one has to be moved to a different forum.
Since we do not have a Bird Identification forum at the Shroomery, well, I will figure something out.

alan thats what they call a plums&custard trich;
found these bout two years ago, fruiting in the lawn but after I picked em, it looked like they were growing from the root's of the jack pines that were around. I'm pretty sure that it causes most of the host conifer's to rot away. Should have a white spore print.

Phenomenal pics everyone. I too agree with the need for a subforum. I like mushroom hunters, and I don't particularly like the drug-addled idiots in the pub. I like the drug-addled smart people in mushroom hunting. Maybe we could have a "Tangential to Mushroom Hunting" subforum. A thread like this one would be perfect for it, because snoot could give us all some photography tips that we'll then use when that perfect mushroom flies away before we press the shutter button!
Although even in that forum -- No fucking talking about the weather!!!!

i liked CubensisCutter's idea in PM to have a subforum called "Veteran Hunters" or something along those lines.
This is from GGreatOne234's post in the weather discussion thread. The best idea to surface so far.
A Veteran Hunters subforum (Hunting Experience, Into the Wild, Outdoors Adventures or whatever it's called in the end) could really be the working solution. Everyone should be reasonably satisfied

I'll have to agree on the subforum. It's not worth it to post much in the pub, because it just gets shat upon. Plus, like my partner in emo bashing said, fellow mushroom hunters respect each other, and enjoy talking about random shit too.
Cool orchid shot by the way. I need to get some pictures of the orchids around here this summer, and post them in the soon to be subforum. Fo sho.

I don't upload pictures to the site because of the size limit and because they all show up as very small pictures unless you are a shroomery supporter, and if you are then they often show up as far too wide for the screen unless you are on a using a huge monitor.

I wonder where she ran off to. I'd like to hope she doesn't feel unwanted anymore ..I'm sure shes finding other stuff to do in the meantime ...
I almost feel as if this is mod vs mod thing and shes kinda layin low due to the fact GGo wants to be moddin now..

Xmush - Perhaps my computer is incompetent, not me. It seriously took a long fucking time for those images to load. I even took a shower cause i got sick of waiting, and when i came back, it said it was finished loading, but the images still were not there, so i had to refresh the page and wait again.
>I don't upload pictures to the site because of the size limit and >because they all show up as very small pictures
Yeah, that's what I LIKE about it. The loading time is much quicker, and the photos are thumbnails.
Having lots of huge photos load is REALLY annoying, to me at least. It's like auto-play tracks on peoples web site or myspace! I'll play it (view it) if I want to! Especially when you've seen the photos ten times and you just want to read a reply but you have to hit the X to get the page to stop loading all the photos.
>Curecat might know she has a slug fetish
I don't know what species that is off hand. But I've certainly handled them before.

First I ran off to go mushroom hunting in the woods, then i had to jet over to Berkeley to meet with some Mycologists, then since I was all the way in Berkeley I decided to kick it with some friends. I went home, didn't get nearly enough sleep, got up and went to a Fungus Fair at 10am-6pm or so. Helped ID and clean up. Then hooked up with a friend to get food and listen to music.
So that's where I've been, since you seem to be drawing some conclusions about my short absence, hehehe.
GGO, ToxicMan, and I all mod. No ones stepping down or taking a back seat. But you know, sometimes life happens.

I am thinking that in the future these types of topics might be better suited at the Gathering Forum, in the sub-forum The Great Outdoors.
