Colonization issue? wtf...

I had some fully colonized WBS jars after a month or so of non-incubated growth time and I broke them up and dumped them out to spawn to something else in a monotub and the insides of the jars were just not colonized. really weird. heavily rhizomorphic mycelium all over the outside and i dump it out and it doesnt extend more than a quarter inch or so into the jar. i just dont get it. any thoughts/explanations? I dumped all of it together into the monotub without anything else in there just to see if, in a week or so, it might decide to colonize in a new environment but im betting on some contamination pwnage. very discouraging

Why don't you take out the uncolonized grains and just use the good parts as spawn? Does it smell sour? Are the uncolonized grains too wet perhaps?

We accidentally filled em too full to shake them much, and yeah all of the jars had the same smell. I've never smelled cube mycelium before so i dont really know what it smells like but i dont think every single jar would have the exact same contaminant so im not too worried about that. we were VERY sterile in our process, just short of having a flowhood to work with, but otherwise quite attentive to antiseptic methods. the jars had no standing water besides a few water droplets here and there, i certainly wouldnt think that to be too wet. perhaps im mistaken.

i've seen every single jar have the exact same contaminant a few times on this site.
next time just put less grains in it so you have room to shake it like every single tek out there tells you to do. that's the advantage of grain over cakes..
i'd say discard the uncolonized grains or put them in their own jar with some colonized grains with a ghetto/salvage g2g.. depends how they look
might be too late for them.

Mycelium smells very mushroom-y. Go to your grocery store and take a big whiff of what the button or portabella mushrooms smell like. It doesn't smell the same, but somewhat similar. If it doesn't smell anything like that, then it's probably a contam.
