Amen brother.

I have to prepare everything beforehand and then go get high right before I launch into something. If I wait until after I get stoned to pick something to do, I always end up on the PC. Kinda like now

The only thing I find I do better while stoned is exercise.  It has to do with the way I interpret pain under the influence of weed.  Say I'm jogging, sober.  After a while I am thinking, "Damn, my heart's pounding, my legs are sore, I am exhausted, this kind of sucks, I am going to turn around."  But if I were to smoke before the jog, I am able to just kind of get into the music, and zone out... and when my body starts to bug me, its more "Wow this feeling is weird and intense," than "wow this feeling hurts."  Do you guys get what I mean?  I used to lift weights in college and it was the same way--while stoned I felt the painful protest from my muscles as a sort of orgasmic intensity, rather than a pain.  I guess that's why pot makes good pain medicine

But yea--any activities that involve thinking, or being around people, pot is definitely an enormous hindrance.  It might make things more fun, but only until I inevitably fuck something up royally and have to start over (leaving my keys at work, driving to the wrong location, forgetting what I was supposed to do... etc.)  :stoned:

In my late teens/early twenties I smoked pot all the time and I got first class honours for my degree and the award for best student!

I loved writing essays and making films while stoned. Basically I loved doing everything stoned.

I gave up smoking dope four years ago as it stopped being fun and started to become a hinderance to my physical and spiritual health.

There is a smidge of truth, in my experience, to the stat that a large percentage of people give up smoking pot by their early thirties.

About the only things I can do are eat and watch movies. Occasionally, I do dishes, but not often. I like to enjoy the high, and I feel trying to accomplish tasks diminishes the high.

Looks like different people have had different experiences, but personally I get stoned before class, before doing any homework, I blaze on my breaks at work.  And I'm getting As and Bs while majoring in Biochemistry.  I'm not saying weed makes everyone more productive, but it works that way for some. Only way to find out how it goes for you is to try it and see

i occasionally smoke up and go to a lecture.
i think of it as learning from another paradigm, more abstract connections/themes to the things taught in class.

It used to deter me from my work because I would just feel like getting zonked with my friends. But I now know that you can easily by very high and do everything you need to take care of whether it is school work, a job, cleaning, grocery shopping, etc. They key is to not let it sidetrack you. Don't think anything of it, just let your high be and get on with your day. It's like making a mountain out of a mole hill. I mean we're talking about marijuana people... we should be responsible drug users and not let them get in the way of our daily life. The people who say "aww man, I'm so high. I'm useless" don't do anything because of the power of suggestion. You put that attitude in your head, keep it positive brothers. Either way, enjoy the cannabis and peace.

I have a strange reversal of ADHD. My body is always amped and won't STOP focusing. I focus better high.

I have a severe anxiety disorder. People with this disorder are bombarded by thoughts that their minds perceive to be life or death situations, like "what if I don't get a job and run out of money in six months" or "what if I left the stove on" or "what if my cat got out of the house because I didn't lock one of the windows and it got hit by a car".

At other times in my life, these thoughts have been "what if death is coming to get me from the pool drain and i can keep him from getting me by stopping my homework and tapping that light switch/post/computer screen ten times with my nose".

If I'm on downers or something otherwise relaxing, my brain stops worrying about these things and I can focus and be productive without freaking out every five minutes or so about something totally meaningless. Pot intercepts the constant flow of adrenaline from my head and reinterprets it as a calming chemical. I don't get the flight or fight response, I get better grades.

Basic brain chemistry is radically different from person to person. If you're wound up, THC helps. It's like aderral for me.

That may work just fine for you, but my brain just does not work the same when I'm stoned.  I can keep returning my attention to the task at hand, but it stubbornly continues to wander.  After not too long I realize it was probably better to not get stoned before doing the job, so I only get stoned when I've only got simple tasks to do.  I can get more complex things done, but it takes longer, so why wouldn't I just wait before smoking :ohwell:

I agree man, i have also cut down my smoking just because it's not necessary to smoke 24/7... i find it to be a waste unless that's what you are going for which is all right by me (lord knows i've done that many, many times.) I only smoke once when i wake up now and I don't smoke again until all my school work for the day is done. It's not that i won't get it done if i smoke but i put myself on a reward system. I don't need to be dependent on it, but i can use it as I please now. My point is that if you REALLY want to get your shit done while being high, you will get it done and not let it bother you by taking control of your mind and not let the weed do that... think about it. i do understand your side, i've been there but it's different once you can control your mind at all times. peace and enjoy the cannabis either way.

i hate going to work stoned due to the fact that my mind is preoccupied on food, and drink...not the task at hand. I just like to play it safe being as i deal with molten lead every day!:tongue2:

I've been smoking pot morning noon and night for years. I would have to say that waiting until about 2 hours before you go to sleep is the way to go after not smoking all day. When I smoke at the end of the day my mind is still active and I can realize my soberness through my high if that makes anysense at all. My high is more clear is what I mean because my brain isn't dead from smoking all day. PLUS when I smoke at the end of the day the high gives me much more of a feeling of euphoria which lightens my mood. When I smoke all day I don't get that euphoria. Its nice to be high on life AND weed. You gotta find the balance.

Pretty much the only thing I'm good at doing high is eating. I drive better though, but only because I actually stop at stop signs and obey speed limits.
