Last night, the Sun lost to the Lakers with Shaq playing.
He's just coming off an injury and hasn't played in over a month.
Give him some time. Sheesh.
Marion is a great player but I think the idea is that with the Sun's depth other players will be able to contribute and help take up the slack. There are some very good players on that team who will get more minutes now.
Amare Stoudamire is going to absolutely GO OFF with Shaq drawing opposing defense's attention he will be freed up. Last night he had 37 pts, 15 rbs and 2 blocked shots.
I understand people's concerns but I think if he can stay healthy the move will prove to be a good one. It's going to be fun finding out..

They run. Its what they do. They are are like gazelles on the plains of the NBA, surviving on speed. And they have just traded one of their head gazelles for the oldest Elephant on the continent?
What possible purpose could he serve them? They will be down the floor and have scored twice by the time Shaq gets into position.
This is the dumbest trade in recent memory, unless The Matrix was just so unhappy that a trade was necessary to prevent Steve Nash from beating him to death with a hockey stick.

I still don't see it working out. But Shaq was obviously sandbagging it big time down in Florida, so it doesn't look nearly as bad as it did at first glance.
For the record, I don't blame him for wanting to bail. People get pissed when athletes do such things, but to me it's understandable.

Heh. I was in the minority but had a feeling it would work out. The Sun's 96-79 blowout of the Spurs IN San Antonio last night should silence most remaining doubters.
Of course the true test will be if the Suns can advance further in the playoffs this year.
Other trades have worked out great also: KG in Boston, Pau Gasol in LA. The Jason Kidd trade really seems to have hurt the Mavs though.

I'm just saying that if Shaq never lost weight, healed, stopped sandbagging, ect. this never would have worked out.
Looks like the big man saved it all up for a title run. Boston vs either LA or Phoenix would be great!

Yeah, Shaq has always been that way to an extent though. He usually saves his "A" game for late in the season and the playoffs. Even more so now that he is late in his career.
So what has become of Shawn Marion who was traded away for Shaq?
Foot injury ends Shawn Marion's season
MIAMI, April 4 (UPI) -- A foot injury has ended the 2007-08 NBA season of Miami Heat forward Shawn Marion.
The Florida South Sentinel reported that the 6-foot-7, 230-pound Marion was diagnosed with plantar fasciitis in his left foot and heel.
The injury, which affects ligaments, causes weakness and swelling.
http://www.upi.com/NewsTrack/Sports/2008/04/04/foot_injury_ends_shawn_marions_season/9255/
Marion was already bothered by back spasms that forced him to miss 11 of the past 12 games.

Plus, Marion was unhappy and Phoenix has a million wing-men anyways. The Suns don't need MArion. Mark my words.
Sometimes I think I should work for ESPN.

How that working out for ya big boy? You and Stewart Scott and Staph infection Smith could hook up for the NBA show.

Looks like I was wrong.
In my defense, I don't think the Suns would have beat them with Marion either.

it's hard to say.
like i stated before, it's not as if Marion couldn't play defense. He's averaged around 8 or 9 boards per game throughout his career, and has ranked amongst the top ten in steals per game before. Maybe the Spurs would still be up 3-0 anyways, but I still say this was a bogus trade. Marion simply gives you more firepower (as well as legit defense) than Shaq ever could at this point in his rapidly declining career.
oh btw, FUCK THE SPURS.
