Crumbled vs whole cakes
    #7983847 - 02/05/08 06:41 PM (15 years, 11 months ago)

anyone know which is better? easier to work with?

also im guessing that if i decide to crumble them id have to dunk the whole fruiting chamber to get another flush as opposed to individually dunking cakes

if the above is true could i simply poor a lot of distilled water over it and let it drain?

i live in a dorm and im concerned about the sterility of our tap water, or should i not be concerned with sterility of the water once i have matured mycelium

The benefit of crumbling and casing is a drop in the requirements for fruiting since the casing material provides enough warmth/moisture for mushroom development.

I use to use discarded butter dish containers for crumbling up cakes and casing them, would average 3.5 (dry) per a flush from one sometimes up to a quarter depending on the amount of cake going into it.

If your hell bent on using a single large container, simply fill it up with water once the mycelium has recovered, so that it can be re-hydrated and very carfully drain it out.

p.s the requirments for cakes is 72f and 92-99 R.H

for casings it is 72f 75-80 R.H it's easier to maintain a lower humidity then a higher one. Also, the surface area is increased for fruiting when cased.
