70% ISO or 91% ISO?

From what I read which is backed by science you want the 70% because it evaporates slower...giving you more time to do what you have to do.
The 91% Evaporates quickly and right when its evaporated mold spores can jump onto it.
Mold spores wont surface in water correct?

70% is preferred, but it has nothing to do with rate of evaporation.
Cells admit water through their cell walls via osmosis. Cell walls are particularly good at preventing the entry of toxins, so by mixing water with the alcohol, it 'tricks' the cell wall into admitting the mixture, which then kills the cell as the alcohol evaporates back out.
I'm sure one of our resident chemists can put it in more scientific terms, but that's the jest of it. RR

Any concentration over 50% will denature/dissolve membrane proteins/lipids so anywhere from 50-90% alc. is good to use as a microbicidal because those concentrations contain enough water to allow the solution to enter into the cell for internal protein coagulation. Anything above 95% will only destroy the cell membrane's external proteins/lipids. 70% is best because not only does it destroy the cell membrane components but it also contains enough water for internal protein coagulation.

I dunno man look what I researched. But then again I got it from Wi Encyclopedia
It is widely believed that 70% ethanol provides the greatest reduction in bacterial count; however, this is incorrect. Other concentrations may be more effective, but their rate of kill is slower. In order to reduce the skin bacterial count to 5% of normal, 70% ethanol must be left on the skin for at least 2 minutes.

"Other concentrations may be more effective, but their rate of kill is slower." Thats true. If the higher concentration alcohol were able to actually enter the cell it would be more effective...but without the water it would take longer because it would have to pretty much eat through the lipid bilayer instead of being ushered in by the cell as is the case when your talking about 70%. And, with its(95-100%) higher evaporation rate, the time that would be required for it to be more effective wouldn't be possible.
