Oysters Shmoysters

Could you tell me what kind these are if you don't mind?
They are very water logged, and return to the traditional white fruiting body color when they are squeezed.
Habitat: A grassy lawn. Looks like a tree once stood there. Upon further inspection of the substrate, a series of hardy pieces of wood (probably from the tree's roots) were apparent. Western Pennsylvania.
Weather: It's been around 40 Fahrenheit at night and 50-60 Fahrenheit during the day the past two days. Constant rain as well. Wasn't expecting to find anything, but low and behold!
Everything else: look at the pictures.

Yeah, they do look pretty waterlogged. To me they look like ostreatus. Around here they are really brown like that when they are that wet. That is very cool to be finding em though. I guess they could be oysters of the shmoyster variety.

should i let them dry out a bit?
Are there any mushrooms like these that you would want to refrain from ingesting?

well you'd refrain from eating anything unidentified, thats just good practice. How do they smell? be descriptive.

Usually oysters have a very oyster like smell to em. Not the shellfish but its a unique smell that is only smelt in that species, I describe it as a sweet flour-meal like smell. Taking a spore print would be wise as well.

I'm not positive, but I don't think you want to dry oysters. For some reason I remember hearing they get tough upon rehydration. If they are too wet, sautee them until they start losing some moisture, and then pour some of the water out of the pan. Not too much though. Also, if you want to save them you can lightly sautee them with butter or olive oil and then freeze em. Just defrost them when ready to eat, and sautee again. That's what I do. Deliscious on pizzas, burgers, and pretty much anything!
Snoot is right, don't eat em just yet. Just to be safe print em. But they do look like oysters.

Not completely dried out. I mean let them dry out so they aren't waterlogged, but still hydrated. If they are the right type, and I tried to cook them now, It would turn into soup. They are literally carrying at least their weight in water right now.
I'm fairly sure these are the edible ones, and a spore print is pending. What color are these gonna turn up if they're the yummy ones?
Thanks snork.
Snoot, they smell like water. =P. Hopefully the water gets out of them alright. I'm looking forward to a nice stir-fry with some garlic.

yeah, I edited my above post, because I realized what you were asking. Sautee em, and dispose of some of the water that sweats out of them. Then add your choice of butter or olive oil, and any other goodies! Stir fry sounds amazing right now. I'm out of oysters for the winter though. Cooking pasta with clam sauce right now. It would be good with oysters!!!

They're in my belly right now.
Delicious! Much much better than store-bought. The water in them gave them a really interesting and fun texture. I did dry them out more so then when I found them, but I cooked them up with some garlic and vegetable oil, threw in some peppers and a bit of salt, and they were great.
