Is my spent coffee good to use?
    #7982575 - 02/05/08 12:52 PM (15 years, 11 months ago)

So I have been saving up my spent coffee grounds for about a week or so and have have 2-3 cups with of this stuff (waiting for coco coir to come in). I sort of messed up and haven't been drying them out. I leave them in a tupperware container with the lid slightly on.

I now realize I need to dry them out if I plan on storing them for more than a day. I took out a plate and spread the grounds and left on my balcony to dry (I live in a warm place). I didn't notice any form of mold whatsoever.

You think I'm still good to use them? Also, was it a good idea to leave them in the sun to dry or should I just nuke them and store them in a zip lock?

Dry them completely out. You're lucky they aren't moldy already. Pasteurize along with the coir.

I just buy the big bags of coffee from the grocery store and pasturize it together with the coir, so far, so good.

That would make sense the put them right in the freezer once they're spent. Simple pasteurization. I'll just let them dry outside then throw them in the freezer and past. with my coir when it comes.

Another quick question: after I pasteurize casing, can I store the left over in the freezer for when I'm ready to use it again?
