There's a lot of good psytrance out there. I love Talamasca, especially his latest album which you can download for free from his website http://www.mindcontrolrecords.com/
I've been to 5 live shows and I had ++++ trips on three of them. I love psy parties and especially festivals and always trip nicely there, but Talamasca blew almost everything away except maybe Voov.

I want to go to a Goa Gil gig but never had the chance...

theres some trashy artists in there :$ but some good shit too

Please grace me with a better list ... North Florida has NO psy scene and if someone has heard of infected mushroom I have a borderline heart attack from the rarity of it.  I would like to hear some more "underground" stuff but I'm not about to sift through psyshop.  Pretty much my only method is listening to di.fm's psytrance channel

well first you really gotta discover the sub genre of psy that really hits your spot

personally/currently im loving lots of the full-on twilight psy coming from South Africa, real dark twisted psy especially when it has abit of DnB too it (eg parvati records), and the earthy progressive psy sounds coming from australia/melbourne at the moment.

Abomination - pass away Shift remix

Goa Gil has been at Burning Man several years. i hope he goes this year, that would be indeed otherwordly. the man isn't from this galaxy, i swear. once you meet him, and experience one of his famous 14 hour + sets, youll see why.

recently there was a goa gill party in the southern highlands here in australia where he played a 24 hour set, i have to say i was pretty disappointed, expected more of a journey -  24 hours of dark psy and train wrecks... but with the aid of acid the journey took place.. memorable experience none the less.
and unfortunately i was way too messed up after 24 hours of dark madness to make conversation with old gil :frown:

artists eh, well for dark:

i second Penta
Naked tourist
Entropy
deviant species
hefty output
pondscum
dark nebula
kerosene club
terranoise
audiopathik
para hulu
etc

SA 'dark'full-on/twilight/:

shift
tickets
brethren
twisted system
azax syndrome
phyx
artifakt
pitch hikers
slug
hydraglyph
phatmatix
rabdom L
etc

earthy prog:

tetrameth
shadow FX
autonomech
spoon bill
sensient
etc
there are tetrameth and shadow fx songs in my post on page 1

Thanks for the recommendations guys!

Btw... how do you find about these subgenres?

Every psy website I go to just divides into full-on, prog, and dark. These genres are so expansive its hard to narrow time to a "genre" what I like.

Moreover, how does one hear about what is coming out from what locations? Just label knowledge?

These lists are worldwide. There are also lists for specific countries which are usually more detailed. I live in the Netherlands and use this one:

i have to say i kinda like my psytrance like i like festivals where you can trust most people and its not way too big and publicity, where someone will give you acid for free - 3 bucks and chat, and where you can talk to the people running it or the DJ and they are cool folk. i love when its just a great gathering of awesome people with awesome music and just awesomeness everywhere!
