My understanding is that they can record anything and everything that happens in a jail except for meetings between lawyer and client.
My guess is the guy in the cell was not a cop. A lot of people in jail will become informants. The cops often stick the informants in with new guys for obvious reasons (which you experienced).
I wouldn't lose sleep over it. If they could do something, they would have by now.

I'd like to know what kind of cell phone you have plus who is your cellular service provider... I've never seen a cell phone that gave more information than the actual incoming telephone number, unless you already had the incoming number programmed into your phone, in which case it would display whatever name you had associated along with that telephone number. I've seen landlines provide more information than just the incoming number, but not cell phones.

from SE US, never dealt with tracfones though. nice to know about that feature.
I wouldn't doubt the police having undercovers inside jails... would be great for obtaining confessions or more information in regards to continuing criminal enterprises and just making contacts with likely criminals... I wouldn't be worried about that phone call though. If it was an undercover you were probably just one of many possible leads he was following up on.

Honestly, if they were after you they'd use a better method. Possession of stolen property isn't exactly something they really give a shit about.
You were in on drug charges so they would certainly be going after a drug related conviction. It would also be pretty easy to claim entrapment in your situation. They forced you into a confined area with someone that eventually enticed you into a conspiracy to possess stolen goods. That's pissant stuff. They wouldn't bother with it as it would almost certainly be a lot more work and headache than it's worth.
They do put jailhouse snitches in with people sometimes, but usually that's to get details about the crime you committed or info on others that were involved.

Entrapment doesn't apply to somebody that is likely to commit the crime had the police not been involved. Entrapment also doesn't apply to informants.

Entrapment applies to anyone working on behalf of the government. An informant isn't the same as an undercover or a paid (or enticed) snitch.
Your first sentence is a basic statement of fact. I'm not sure how it would play out if they enticed a MJ smoker to buy heroin or something of the like. But obviously if they enticed him by forced confinement with a persuasive agent working for the government, then they are putting him in a situation where he might do something that he otherwise would not have. That is the basic gist of entrapment as I understand it.
LOL about the "auto parts" slang. You're thinking of committing a felony with someone who has a lot of weight on them and is facing some time. Common sense dictates that you not deal with anyone in that position. Just like if your buddy got popped, they get cut out of the loop until they've dealt with their legal problems. NEVER deal with someone who has weight on them.
