does anyone know if it would be safe to use like tamato sauce/pickle jars, like ones you get at the grocery. will they withstand being pressure cooked?

they should..
when in doubt put em in a pillowcase or something..
and foil-seal the lids.

They will be fine man as long as the lid gives a good seal, or you augment the filtration if it doesn't.

no but really you should go try to find tapered mason/kerr/ball jars, but if you cant find any i guess those jars will do in a pinch.

If you don't have separate lids and seals you won't be able to insert a tyvek paper over the holes.
If this is not important to you, and you are happy with foil, then go for it.

You could definitely use them. Just use some polyfill and your all good.
