Fresh air exchange (fae)in green house idea
    #7977631 - 02/04/08 01:13 PM (15 years, 11 months ago)

While reading through threads on fae and greenhouses, i ran across the idea of using holes stuffed with polyfill. I imagine the polyfill is a nice touch but probably works well without stuffing the holes (in a clean room with air purifier). Currently I'm using holes with no polyfill in my set up and having some issues with humidity. My humidity without the holes was optimal(took like an hour using cool mist to dial in rh), but currently(today) with the holes humidity is much lower as expected. I waited an hour and checked out the humidity which was half of what it was without the holes but it is still steadily rising. Only time will tell if the rh is gonna be right which I'm being optimistic in thinking that it may still. Polyfill and tyvek are interchangeable for filter purposes both work great. Why not buy a roll of tyvek and use it instead of plastic to wrap around your shelving unit? My theory is that by doing this you have a greenhouse that holds humidity in(no need for holes), is protected from outside contaminates, and yet can still get good fae(with air purifier near it). (ps my setup has a cool mist inside as opposed to modifying the cool mist with tubing to work outside)

IMHO, polyfill defeats your purpose, though used ala mono-tub, has produced great results for many.

I prefer a Shotgun FC myself, you can augment with fanning for excellent FAE.

not a very space efficient fc but im not shit talking it completely i have indeed been very successful using the shotgun.... To be clear my question is: if tyvek was wrapped around a shelving unit would it create a more efficient fae? It lets light in keeps out contaminates but how well is it for holding in water?

try dipping a tyvek envelope in water and see what happens, my guess is not too much water if any will seep through it, i believe thats one of the reasons the post office uses tyvek envelopes

if you covered the floor around the area with some sort of plastic pooling setup would it be a problem or would the wet tyvek be a contam issue?

You don't need to filter air entering a greenhouse. Period.
