Fully colonized cakes, could it be cobweb?
    #7977461 - 02/04/08 12:01 PM (15 years, 11 months ago)

Hello everybody.
I have a problem. The thing is, i have got 4 fully colonised cakes in plastic jars (jars came with grow kit). The cakes are about 2,5 months old. They shrinked for few milimeters or little more all around cake/jar and there are water drops/condensation to be seen on/in jars.Enough description. The thing is i was to late (and stupid) to inform myself about mycelium alike bacterias and molds, like cobweb...I am suspicious that during the colonisation cobweb (that i thought was just mycelium) could developed in the one specific jar or maybe more of them. Now the surface/edges of cakes look quite firm not fuzzy or fluffy.I really dont know how does cobweb conflict mycelium. Can mycelium and cobweb merge/grow together making a full colonised cake look like healthy? I read that cobweb spreads very quickly.Taking in concern that i remember cobweb/or young mycelium from month or month and a half ago, till about week or two ago, cobweb would probabily spread faster,or not? Should i toss the cakes or birth them? I will take some pictures and post them about an our from now. I would appriciate help very much. Thanks
Cosmic

Just smell the cake. If it smells like basement, or is nauseating then it's probably cobweb mold. If the cake smells like shrooms then you should be fine.

I had cobweb and you can tell the difference just by smell.

If they have a bad smell, they are bad.  If no smell, just sit back at wait them out.  Next grow try PF cakes, I found that making the cakes your self instead of buying the pre made stuff, works out alot better & its cheaper.  Lower risk of contamination.
