Clock changing on restart.
    #7976600 - 02/04/08 05:54 AM (15 years, 11 months ago)

every time i restart/turn on my computer, the clock changes from AM to PM (or vice versa) and also the time changes to a totally different time.

i don't have a laptop, and i am running XP with dual boot.

i think it might have started when i changed it to dual boot i'm not sure.

anyone able to help???

I've seen two things cause this problem:

1) bad/dead cmos battery

2) Windows/Unix dual boot systems that handle "system time" differently. I had this problem when dual booting Winblows and Solaris x86. The nntpd daemon on Solaris would set an absolute time and then offset the displayed time based upon your timezone. Winblows would set the system time to your current time in your current timezone. Winblows method works great for single user systems or a system where all users are in the same timezone. The unix method words regardless of what timezone the user is in.

I suspect the latter is what's causing the trouble here. Even with a dead cmos battery, each time he logs in, it'll reset the time to a time server.

I have a dual boot linux mint (shiny ubuntu) and windows xp. Mint will automatically set itself to a whole bunch of time servers, I'm assuming it'll do a mean average of them. Windows however is shit, I can't add time servers without hacking the registry, so I don't let it update the time and send it off by five minutes. I might miss something.

It sounds to me like the OP may just have different timezones set for each OS though. But yeah it would help to know which operating systems are involved.

I had this problem with Ubuntu/XP a while ago, but it seemed to fix itself after Hairy Hardon was released.

Ick... my condolences. Make certain that the timezone is set the same for both installs.

Yeah, that doesn't work for me. It won't let me change the value without reghacking.
