Avoiding a bad trip?

I'm still kind of apprehensive about doing shrooms, the only reason why is I'm afraid of having a bad trip. What could I do to prevent one?

You must avoid the notion that there are such things as bad trips and instead obtain the mindset that everything mushrooms or LSD or any great substance can give you is something worth experiencing.

Listen to a shitload of Terence McKenna on youtube, I promise you'll be psyched to do shrooms.
Remember, don't be afraid of fear, there's nothing wrong with being afraid during a trip, or feeling like it's to intense. For a trip to be a real "bad trip" it pretty much has to be either circumstantially based or just be a ridiculous dose. Otherwise it's just intense and difficult, but it will also produce an experience that you literally could never have imagined. (and I'm pretty much talking doses of 1/8th and up here. If you dose like 2g for your first trip I'd say the chances of an over intense trip are pretty slim).
As Terence McKenna himself said, "If you don't think you took too much, you didn't take enough."

The only real fear I have is getting the feeling that I can't breathe, this has only happened to me once in my life, and that was years ago. My doctor said I am suffering from depression/anxiety, which I think is bullshit. I know all that stuff is just in your head to begin with.

not necessarily. my guess is your doctors pulling your leg though. far too many Prozac type meds being prescribed. some people generally need it however.

Start with a low dose.
During the trip if you get scared just remember that mushrooms are 100% safe and that you took a very low dose and soon...you will began to come down...and everything will go back to normal.

I think the #1 cause of a bad trip (for me at least) is the fear of having a bad trip. Bad trips are pretty rare in my experience. And if it makes you feel better I personally feel I gain so much more from a bad trip than a good one, and from what I've heard of others this seems to be the general consensus, so it's not like a waste even if it happens.
Just be in a comfortable environment with good friends, good music, w/e you like man, and you'll have a good time.

Don't fear a bad trip. Fear is the mind-killer. This is important.
That said, make sure you're very comfy where you are, that no one (other than a sitter, if you wish) can bother you, and that there is nothing distressing happening in your life, and a bad trip will be very unlikely at this point. If a bad trip does occur at this point, you will benefit tremendously from it in the long run.

Dont be afraid of bad trips dude. They are actually cool and you feel like a champ when you come out of them. You wont freak out or do stupid shit as long as you "Respect" the drug. Im a prime example of what happens if you dont choose a safe place to do them and take a dose you are nowhere NEAR ready for.
I wont tell ya what happened cause it would worry you. However im now a convicted felon.
HOWEVER MY FRIEND!.......would i do it all again?
You bet your ass. Remember that bad shit in life is the worlds way of making you a useful person. Same thing with mushrooms, acid, ect. Bad trips are nothing to be afraid of dude. Im not gonna and tell you that you can 100% avoid one because i promise you if you partake in psychedelics, you can bet your ass there are gonna be some scary times ahead. But its nothing a person caint handle if you arnt making stupid choices.
On a side note if you dont like things you caint 100% explain or if you are afraid of emotions and thinking....i think you may have the wrong drug. Perhaps you should try E and go to raves.
THERE IS NO GARENTEE THAT YOU WILL NOT HAVE A BAD TRIP. AND IF YOUR WORRYING ABOUT IT THAT MUCH AND ARE TRYING THAT HARD TO AVOID IT. YOUR FIRST TRIP PROBALLY WONT BE A VERY EASY ONE
