Some wicked looking mushrooms. These things are extremely intimidating.

Habitat: Northwest Florida(Panhandle) Woods on ground in dead leaves. Gills: Dark red. Cap: About 4-6cm approx. kinda slimy brownish. Stem: same color as cap. Smell: Well it smells like a mushroom, kinda humid smelling.

haha , why you said intimidating, but maybe you are right they can be poisonous ,look somehow to cortinarius sp, and the spores print can be rusty brown , be sure to make one by placing the cap in a white paper, and cover with a a cup of glass or something to isolate from the wind or air . all the best.

hey neat find botard89
they are not all too familiar to me, at least i never found them in florida before, and those do not match up to anything in the book Common Florida Mushrooms. and without knowing the spore print color, keying them out would be a teadious task for me.
very nice find. they look like they could perhaps be poisonous to some degree. my first guess would be Pholiota or Cortinarius (only a guess) but do not want to try keying anything out without knowing the spore print color (of which you are required to provide for a id request). but really that is a tricky one lol

yeah corts have a very unique physical characteristics with there gills and the lip that grows around the gills. atleast such things are noticable in older more mature specimans. Naturally not all of them have that lip but too me the gills and whatnot with corts are uniquely lookin.
