print it, put a cap gill side down on some tinfoil. it looks like a cybe of some kind, not active, certainly not edible even if it was, small brown shrooms like that are hardely palatable and not worth eating.

looking at those gills, and not seeing any bruising I wouldn't say its any active fungus. Take a print like I said before.

When i posted this i actually assumed that there wasn't any bruising, after looking again, the cap looks like it's bruising with a dark orange ring lining around the edge of it, and the stem is bruising a slightly dark brownish-purple.

make a spore print the genus cortinarius is not active, you can make a spore print by placing the cap in a white paper and cover with a glass , the spore will fall in the paper leaving a print with his distinctive color, cortinarius and many other rusty spores color fungus are toxic, almost all genus ,maybe gimnopilus is the exception. so fi you like to know if are active or edible , make a spore print if is rusty brown, is no good all my best

I'm thinking this might be a Gymnopilus luteofolius, i have once tried one of these and it did have bitter taste, it also was found buried in decomposed in wood chips, so maybe the ones i collected weren't fully grown, oh and the spore print was rusty-orange.

THEY ARE NOT ACTIVE.
Stop wishing they were. They just aren't.
Tubaria seems like a good guess. Though the colour in the photo is really messed up, and makes it very hard to tell.
Cortinarius don't grow from piles of wood chips. Nor do Laccaria. They are both mycorrhizal, not lignicolous.
They're not any Gymnopilus, the stems are too brittle.

I just realized I never do see laccaria decomposing woodchips. Thanks.

Read the rules:

Quote:
I. Mushroom Hunting Forum rules
3. Do NOT ask what mushrooms can be found growing in your state or imediate area. This information is easily found in the Mushroom Hunting FAQ and/or has been posted at least once elsewhere on the net. Also see this document: http://www.shroomery.org/8461/Which-mushrooms-grow-wild-in-my-area
Also, please try using the "Search Posts" feature, it is extremely useful:
