if they dont issue you a 1099 (contract labor tax form) then dont sweat it, the IRS doesnt know you even worked.

thats what I was thinking BUT - if I deposit the cash into my bank wont the Govt eventually ask: where is the money coming from.
ALSO_ if the CO doesnt file paperwork for me - does that mean they are not 'claiming me as an employee' - then why ask for SS# and invoice - why not just cut a check?
thanks P#1(and and anyone else who helps)

Unless you are making hefty deposits (at least 10K at a time) and are living fat then I wouldn't worry about it.
In the Shroomery: Pics or it didn't happen.
In the IRS: 1099 or it didn't happen.
That simple.

large deposits are tracked, starting at $5k, as for the SSN, they may be trying to cover their asses in case of an audit, if that happens they'll come to you, when they do, claim identity theft or something

so id be depositing $300. or so at a time, so no red flags will be going off - This Co is 75 years old, and has a ton of temps working there in this fashion- should I just put an incorrect SS#? like 'wrong' last 2 digits?

your best bet is to inquire why they want the info if they havent issued you a 1099 for the previous year, a company was recently busted because they were hiring illegals and issuing SSN from previous employees to them for the tax status

well its my first week there - when I go back on Monday I will ask if they are indeed going to issue a 1099 ir not - I dont remember the answer I got (1st day jitters) if he sez NO - the Co is NOT going to issue the 1099 - Is 'safe' to do the SS# switcharoo - so its not 'me'
i dont think this CO has problems with Illegals - its a design job - very high end.

if they do plan to issue you a 1099 then make sure you set aside 20% of your paycheck to cover what you'll be paying in at the end of the year or you can get vouchers to pay it quarterly, that's what I do.
