I couldn't pick a favorite beer.
But I do like everything from the North Coast Brewing Co., I really enjoy Arrogant Bastard Ale, and Lagunitas from Petaluma, CA.

Hopslam is hard to find but I did see a few six packs of it yesterday. I had to pass because a six pack of it was $14. But yeah, that beer is a hop lover's wet dream.

the magic hat brewery is in Vermont. I went there a couple times and tasted all their beer. That is where I tried out jinx for the first time. I have never seen jinx anywhere, except once in a variety pack. circus boy is also really good and a little more common. I like most magic hat but Jinx and circus boy are my favorites

There is not one best beer. They all serve purposes for different times. Some thatgo with meals, some that are meals... it doesn't matter to me!
But, up to now, Clipper City has this Heavy Seas line that I love... Loose Cannon being the best among them.
Plus.. pirate theme ftw!
Oh, Rogue and Bell's ftw as well!

Maybe it's cause I'm a heckuva lot closer to the brewery, but I've never seen the Arrogant Bastard large bottles going for more than ~$5 here in California. I like it.
Other choice brews that I've been enjoying:- Colorado New Belgium's Trippel
- Colorado New Belgium's 2 Below
- Oregon Deschutes's Bachelor Extra Special Bitter (ESB)
- Germany Spaten Munich's Oktoberfest
- Germany Schneider & Sohn's Aventinus
- California Firestone's Double Barrel Ale

Hell yeah Hopslam!! Grapefruity, peachy, resiny, and all that good stuff! I make my own beer and I can't come close to something so tasty. I usually don't buy beer from the store but I'll be buying several more cases of this stuff before its gone for the year
Oh yeah, and at 10% it only takes a bottle or two to get you where you need to be.

Yah, that has to be the reason. My roomies ex was from new mexico and all she could talk about was this beer. We had to go to a specialty pub in memphis called the flying saucer to find a bottle of it. It cost us 9 bucks (big bottle tho) and it was good, but, IMO not worth the 9 bucks they charged.
If i was paying 3 bucks a bottle i wouldn't mind it tho.

Any of the Deririums are worth it also. 24 ounces.. about 8-9 bucks, but so damn good and strong. I mean 9 bucks for a 24 ouncer that's almost 9% alcohol.. that's basically 4.50 for a beer that's twice as strong as most. A little expensive, but not excessive.

This thread is bullshit. Even if we take all the posters in this thread together, you have still sampled only a minute part of the thousands and thousands of different beers that are brewed all around the world. Who could honestly claim "the best beer EVER"?

I don't always believe alcohol content is always what gives it's strength as so much as what it is made with. But if it has a real high content then i would agree. I mean they sell beer that has a jalapeno floating in it, I'm sure it's strong tasting.

Beer is a complex subject. And subjective it is. I like an extremely wide variety of beer and have a deep appreciation of its history, manufacture and social underpinnings. Every beer has its place. For some, maybe their time has passed but they still earn a place.
Relatively speaking, Blue Moon is swill water next to a premium farmhouse Belgian Saison. OTOH, you won't be drinking the saison out of a bottle or from a tap at your local pub. You won't quickly and cheaply nab a six-pack and tote it a to a party on a whim. Your not going to drop an orange in your saison just to see what it's like. Blue Moon, IME, is the easiest beer to present to a crowd. There are several factors at play that place Blue Moon as one of the best beers to pick up at the grocery store. I love to try the premium farmhouse ales, in traditional fashion and spend graciously to do so. I also drink Blue Moon and enjoy every aspect the beer has to offer.
To hear someone say that they think of a beer in the same context as kool-aid strikes me as impressive. Whether that beer particularly appeals to them or me is irrelevant to the bigger picture.

I'd like to slightly disagree with what you portend.
I have personally sampled thousands of different beers. Beers from all over the globe; Beers with labels that were in languages that were so foreign I couldn't have guessed their origin; Beers that defied my very concept of what beer can mean. Beer is a big history lesson and a reflection of current events.
One could say that this site is like beer. But this site alone is but a small sampling of the online population and even smaller subset of world population. Does that make what is discussed and concluded within this site irrelevant because it will always reflect such minute sampling of the overall consciousness?
I digress? What I mean to get at is that the relativistic sense of the word "best" is perpetually an anachronistic paradox. The subjective conclusion of what represents the best experience an individual feels they can share can serve to simultaneously verify personal experience, challenge pre-conceived notions, and inspire broader horizons to be discovered.
Your attack on the semantics of the subject of the thread is tantamount to attacking the spirit of it.

You got me. I studied philosophy for two years as an undergrad. Made me picky on words, as you may well have noticed.
You make a lot of good points, but I still don't like the title of this thread.
FHM magazine ran an article a couple of years ago, some Briton made a trip around the world sampling numerous beers in all continents, writing a short review for each of them, and then compiling a top 5 or top 10 in the end. We'd need at least ten guys who'd done something similar to do a "Best Beer Ever" thread.
What's wrong with "Your favourite beer"?
Alright, alright, you're absolutely right

A MAN"S BEER.
I started drinking this back in college. One night after I had two, I broke into my school's construction site, climbed a 300 foot crane, stole the construction company banner, and took a shit off the top of the crane.
ANother time I had a couple of these, my buddy was rolling. We broke into a hospital to see his g/f after visiting hours were over.
Moral of the story: The 211 turns you into FUCKING SUPERMAN.

Any of the Deririums are worth it also. 24 ounces.. about 8-9 bucks, but so damn good and strong. I mean 9 bucks for a 24 ouncer that's almost 9% alcohol.. that's basically 4.50 for a beer that's twice as strong as most. A little expensive, but not excessive.
http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/180/1421/
I'm starting to love this beer advocate web site. All the posters try to sound like snobs though. I'm going to register and start leaving ghetto ass comments just "THIS SHIT'LL FUCK YO SHIT UP, NEGRO!"
BA won't let a rating like that stay online for long... though it isn't necessarily apparent on the surface, they have a very active moderator staff. I've been visiting BA for the past four years, am a subscriber, and am even wearing a beeradvocate navy blue t-shirt as I type! It is a great site.
Delerium Noctornum however, is not a beer you'll often find me drinking. While it is a strong beer, I don't find the flavor well balanced with the alcohol. For a strong beer with a smooth, full-body, and well-balanced flavour --- something I could drink all night long --- I would strongly advocate Schneider & Sohn's Aventinus at 8% abv.
I'd even drink the Trader Joe's Vintage Ale (a 9% abv re-label from Canada's Unibroue brewery), or Unibroue's own La Fin Du Monde (9% abv) before hitting the Delerium. The Delerium will do the trick for the alcohol, but the flavor I simply don't care for.
