Why do so many people seem to idolize Scarface?

Please don't be offended by this if you idolize Scarface, but I've always wanted to know why people wear Scarface clothing. Is it because they're trying to look tough or what? I don't get it. I've always wondered why people love that movie that much. To me Scarface just symbolizes violence and greed. Why would you want to advertise that?

I just like seeing Al Pacino act like a tough guy. Scarface, Godfather, Serpico, you name it. Great entertainment.

Most of the people that I know who idolize Scarface or Goodfellas, are itallians.

Good movies.

I don't have anything against the movie. It's ok, I guess. I like Al Pacino. I just can't figure out why people like that character to the point that they would wear clothing with pictures of Scarface. Whether we like it or not, everything that we wear makes a statement to the world, so I'm just curious as to why people choose to make that particular statement.

I find wearing that clothing to be more of a hip hop trend.

So then you apparently missed the scene where he has a choice of whether or not to blow up the one dude's wife and children and chooses not to. Am I right? That one little battle with conscience that he goes thru takes the movie to a whole 'nother level for me. It shows that, in spite of all the corruption that he succumbed to, he still managed to maintain some degree of morality.
In all honesty, I just saw this movie for the first time about a month ago. I'd been meaning to for a while, just never did. But it seems like you missed the point that the main underlying theme of the movie isn't violence and greed. It's the fact that the world is yours for the taking. For that reason I can understand why it's been such an influential movie as far as music is concerned. Tony Montana just went about pursuing the American dream in a fucked up ass corrupt way. Apply it to your own life in a way that won't get you gunned down.

Yeah I don't see why it's so revered. The final shootout scene is great in its flamboyant bloodletting though
Not in the same league as Goodfellas.

Yep. Just go into the business world and do what Tony did except without a gun.

Anyone seen the original Scarface that was made in 1932? That movie in my opinion was way more violent and darker.
Scarface is 20th century opera too and I actually think the story was quite good and that De Palma did a good job with it.

Well, I don't think that people wear Scarface shirts because they think he's a nice guy just because in one scene, he doesn't kill someone.
Sadly, maybe it doesn't symbolize the American dream though.

My favorite movies, books, songs, albums, and stories are the ones with intense endings, where you sit through the whole thing just for that moment of glory at the very end. Scarface or the Shawshank Redemption, for example.
I don't know why everyone likes Goodfellas so much. Casino is far superior IMO. Goodfellas is barely decent.

I think you hinted at it when you said its a hip hop thing. Wannabe 'thugs' idolize violence and greed and aspire to be drug dealers and ex-convicts. I know the thugs that hung out when I was a teen were proud of the time they spent behind bars.
