Mushrooms??

"Hi my name is Gweneth and my boyfriend is atheist. He didn't believe in God, but since im a very religious person, when we started going out he has been questioning a lot about his faith. After many late night talks and long debates about the Catholic Religion, he has finally came to a conclusion to have a "quest for God" When I asked him what he meant he told me that he wanted to take magic mushrooms along with his friend to see if it will help him find something to believe in. Is it unhealthy to take this drug when a person is under that influence? please help me. I don't want to see him get hurt in anyway. I feel that if you want to find something to believe in, find it in prayer.. not in a "magic mushroom"...."

"HOPKINS SCIENTISTS SHOW HALLUCINOGEN IN MUSHROOMS CREATES UNIVERSAL “MYSTICAL” EXPERIENCE Rigorous study hailed as landmark
Using unusually rigorous scientific conditions and measures, Johns Hopkins researchers have shown that the active agent in “sacred mushrooms” can induce mystical/spiritual experiences descriptively identical to spontaneous ones people have reported for centuries.
The resulting experiences apparently prompt positive changes in behavior and attitude that last several months, at least.
The agent, a plant alkaloid called psilocybin, mimics the effect of serotonin on brain receptors..."
http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/Press_releases/2006/07_11_06.html
"Q 9: Studies at Hopkins have shown the potential for brain damage from MDMA ( "ecstasy"). How do you know psilocybin doesn’t have the same risk?
Some studies have shown that MDMA can damage certain nerve cells. There is no experimental or clinical evidence in animals or humans that psilocybin, even in very high doses, is similarly neurotoxic. Enough research has been done with psilocybin, starting in the 1950s, that we can be reasonably confident that it is not physically toxic in doses humans ordinarily use. This is consistent with the fact that psilocybin-containing mushrooms have not, in millennia of use, acquired a reputation of being physically harmful. Traditions that use psilocybin mushrooms do, however, caution about psychological and spiritual risks of using them haphazardly."
http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/Press_releases/2006/GriffithspsilocybinQ
How much concern do you trippers out there give the 'psychological and spiritual risks' mentioned?? What use might you consider haphazard?? Mushrooms and God?? Or no?? God or just brain function?? Spirituality or mental health?? Mushrooms or no mushrooms?? Blue mushrooms?? Red mushrooms??
Might an atheist experience what's called God??

Psilocybin mushrooms are actually less toxic than asprin pills.

many atheists do in fact experience god on mushrooms, or what is commonly referred to as the "godhead". the god they experience is the "one" which is them and everything at once.
in my opinion, we are all actually god at this very moment but are under the illusion that somehow we exist independently of everything else, when everything in the universe is actually a solidified one. just like how trees have branches, we have come to mistake the branch as existing seperately from the tree.
on mushrooms, many people realize that the branch, leaves, and fruit all are the tree along with the stars, planets, and all of eternity.

you have to be open to the experience. If you try to direct it or pretend it is just you, then you will not see God.

Someone made a post once that made me laugh. The thread topic was "How did you discover you were god?" Or something along those lines, and people talked about when they tripped and experianced the feeling or realization of god and themselves.
A poster made a remark saying "When i was praying and realized I was talking to myself". I never forgot that, and its funny cause its true. In reality whether god is showing himself or not humans have everything they need to survive on this earth. They just are looking in the wrong places, or want a easy answer to why we are so fucking weird and pointless beings.
Who knows?

As of late, I've really been drifiting away from psychedelics. I think they are great tools for insight and so forth, but they come with a price and can be very dangerous at high doses. I just have a hard time justifying heroic doses of psychedelics when Buddhism offers the same end result in a manner that is safe, effective, and benign.

I was an atheist at the time of my first mushroom trip.
I'm an agnostic now.
Though I should mention I've flip-flopped a few times in my life independently of psychedelics.
Anyway, as a Roman Catholic, Gwyneth may be disappointed to find that her boyfriend discovers a different God than the one she is familiar with.

Tao is a better-sounding word.
-------------------- “Strengthened by contemplation and study, I will not fear my passions like a coward. My body I will give to pleasures, to diversions that I’ve dreamed of, to the most daring erotic desires, to the lustful impulses of my blood, without any fear at all, for whenever I will— and I will have the will, strengthened as I’ll be with contemplation and study— at the crucial moments I’ll recover my spirit as was before: ascetic.”

I was an agnostic before taking psychedelics. Nowadays some agnostic tendencies do still exist sober, but i feel totally atheist tripping. It is bizarre, but i guess my ego is just strong during trips heh.

I have been to a few on various substances. Most recently the Big Day Out in Auckland, NZ. Lots of great fun. Me dancing like an idiot, occasionally buzzing out with the lights and lasers and pyros, seeing exciting/frightening stuff and people, odd spots of paranoia, but mostly just enjoying the music (even if i can't stand a particular artist when sober).
