OK guys, I need help with humidity

I've got some bruising going on

I have 5 inches of perlite

This is my whole FC setup. I have a fish pump pumping air into a covered dish with water in it which is covered with foil so perlite doesn't enter the dish. I have a 60 watt light bulb in the lamp to provide heat as it is winter and that keeps it around 70 degrees. I mist and I fan during the day.

What am I doing wrong besides PF tek? I can't wait to do bulk substrates as I feel that it will be easier to keep humidity high with a casing layer of coir or something. I just wanted a fruit from these cakes so I could isolate a fruiting substrain. Maybe I should jump into a WBS bulk setup or something? I have already bought the WBS and the quart jars. Any input, something maybe from someone with an m next to their name (RR)?

First, get rid of the 60 watt light. Not only is it the wrong color, the heat draws moisture out of the air. That's why you see your precious humidity condensed into water drops on the sides, while your cakes blue. Second, fluff up that perlite by raking your fingers through it. The perlite should be loose and airy. Third, I don't see holes below the perlite, and the ones above the perlite are covered up. Open up holes on all six sides of the terrarium. Stale air isn't going to absorb moisture well. Fourth, get rid of the air pump. Fifth, after doing the above, watch your humidity go to 99%. RR

Thanks for the quick response RR, but what about heat? I live in an older home with little insulation in the walls. Is is uber imperative to have 70 degree plus temps in the FC?

Ok so here is what I did. I drilled a butt load of holes on the sixth side, the bottom. Drilled some holes below the perlite layer. removed all tape from every hole that I covered, removed the light. I am still a bit worried about the heat. I am going to add an oscillating fan to the room on low to aid in the air exchange. I also turned the cakes upside down as the bottoms had a bit more verm on them. I think it is left over from the colonizing in the jars. I did wash them before the dunk and roll but there was some verm that was attached because of the myc. It is now on the top of the cake. I am hoping that the tops now being on the bottom close to the foil will be a bit more humid and help with the bruising. I kinda feel like an idiot here. I have been reading and reading and used the search button many times. Please let me know if what I have done will help. Thanks in advance

bruising might happen because mushrooms are co2 intolerant and co2 builds up at the bottom area, so you want to have holes near that zone, also to keep warm and mist with hot water. Hope this helps

Bad Vector....no basic physics for you! CO2 does not "leak" or "drain" out. That's why we fan or FAE. Also, warm water won't help keep the entire tub hot. My suggestion djseth is to find a nice closet and put your tub in there with one of those cheap heated fans you can get at the Depot or Lowes. This will keep temps at a nice 75 degrees no problem. And then you have an incubation and fruiting area.

Room temp is fine for the entire cycle, you don't need a heater of any kind.

It's colder than 70 degrees Tripper. That's what he's saying . Room temperature is one of those things that is subjective depending upon what room you're in and where in the world you are. 75F is a good temp for cubes.

Get a space heater. It will effect the rooms humidity though a little. I use oil radiators as you can set them anywhere in the room. I use a ceiling fan to keep ambient temps even.

Heat up the room, not the FC. You're FC will stabilize at your rooms ambient temperature.
