We need more info for an ID request. Please see the rules:

II. Accurate mushroom descriptions
It is critical that you describe mushrooms fully and accurately in order to get a proper identification.
A good picture of the mushrooms is invaluable, but not required. Along with the pictures YOU ARE REQUIRED to provide the following data:
* Habitat (where [woods, pasture, state, province, country, altitude] and what [soil, dung, wood (dead, living, what kind of wood?)] does it grow on) * Characteristics of the gills (color, attached/not, gills/pores, etc) * Characteristics of the stem (length, diameter, color, texture, hollow/solid, thin/thick, etc) * Characteristics of the cap (diameter, color, texture, conical/spherical, convex/concave, etc) * Spore print color (very important!) * Color that the mushroom bruises * Scent of the mushroom * Anything else you might find important
For a template ID request please see this thread.
For more detailed guidelines for describing your finds, please view this document.
For an explanation of mycological terms please refer to this document .
That said, I'll quote my reply to your post in another thread:
Quote:
CureCat said: Umm.... well, dogs usually have the same susceptibility to poisonous mushrooms as we do. So I would not allow your dogs to eat anymore. There are some poisonous Agaricus species, which is what genus those mushrooms are in. The orange/red staining is a good sign it is not a poisonous species, but you should also smell the mushroom, to distinguish if it has a chemical-like odour. The poisonous ones smell decidedly chemical, phenol, or bleach like.
SMELL the mushroom!

LoL. He'll be okay if it was an edible species. With a sniffer like that, I can't imagine wanting to munch one of the poisonous chemical smelling ones anyway. And the red staining is a good sign.
Even if it was a poisonous one, he wont die (he didn't eat that much, and Agaricus are not deadly poisonous- except maybe if it was a really old or really young person, or they were ill, and they ate a LOT). He'd probably just vomit. But I'm guessing it is an edible.

hi smily,
you should really be careful not to let your animal eat mushrooms like that.
i believe more dogs die each year from mushroom poisonings then humans do. dogs are much smaller and react in a more sensitive fashion to the various chemicals in mushrooms.
the mushroom in your photograph is most likely (to almost positively) a species of Agaricus. They can be tricky to identify down to exact species, because there are probably a minimum of at least two or three hundred different species of Agaricus found throughout the world (maybe more), including a good portion of these that make people ill to violently ill but probably rarely ever deadly poisonous for humans. but if a dog got a hold of one of the more toxic Agaricus there is a chance their little body could not handle it.
not to worry you too much, your dog will probably be OK. there are not many Agaricus species I can really identify from just photographs, I would need fresh specimens in hand and a book, and probably Potassium Hydroxide (KOH), a microscope, and even then there is a chance I would not find a exact match.
some Agaricus species smell pleasant and have a pleasing aroma as if they would be edible while they are really poisonous to some degree.
nice looking doggie. thank you for sharing
if he gets sick, i would suggest just, riding it out at home, and within 12-24 hours the dog would be back to normal. Agaricus mushrooms which are poisonous, the toxins contained in them are not very well known or documented yet, but they are not considered deadly for humans.. if the dog does not get sick 4 hours after the time of consuming them my guess is that there will be no ill effects, just a breif lesson for you in Mushroom Poisoning.

Sorry i know this is kinda a old post. However if your dog ever eats something that you believe will make it very sick as in might die attempt to give it hydrogen peroxide. like 2-3 ounces. my dog ate a large portion of rat poison and we called the vet and they told us to do this 5 mins after giving hydrogen peroxide to the dog he began vomiting and the vet found it quite funny cause thats what hydrogen peroxide will do but my dog is still alive. :P

Hydrogen peroxide???
I accidentally drank a small amount of h202 once... I did some research on the toxicity, and it said it could potentially cause internal bleeding...... luckily, it was little enough that it was not harmful.
When my dog ate chocolate, we fed him a small amount of ipecac syrup, and that did that trick.

shove one of these down a poor puppies throat and he has no choice but to consume just about any liquid. but yes we questioned the vet when we did it but it works wonders.

I think I've run into this shroom before...it smells like anise, correct?
It's edible, but it gives you incredibly unpleasant GI problems....imagine your tummy gurgling feeling like you're going to have the biggest fart, only to go to the bathroom to take a massive, messy dump...
In other words, I'd say it isn't edible...haha.

We must assume behind this force the existence of a conscious and intelligent mind. This mind is the matrix of all matter." --Max Planck
