Smelly popcorn

Hey. I am currently incubating some GT's and Acadian Coasts in a double tub config. I inoculated 11 jars, and, thanks to the wonderful tek I used, only have 3 left. I say this because the tek said NOTHING about letting it drain so I only let it drain for like a minute. =( Two are nearly fully colonized, with seemingly no contams, but they smell as if they could be fermenting.? I am confused as this is my first popcorn grow, and perhaps my last. Any info on whether this is ok or not would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Must be a bacterial contamination. All (literally) of the jars I've had that stalled wreaked like that when I dumped & cleaned them out. I'm having big problems with it too.

Thanks for the reply. But, mine haven't stalled... They're still growing. Should I keep them or just dump them?

Sounds like bacteria. If so, they'll be hard to break up by shaking, and the mycelium will have a greasy appearance. If they smell sweet, sour, like venegar, dirty socks, etc., it's bacteria.
Next time, use grains. Popcorn has a much higher bacterial endospore count than most other grains. It works, but is a poor choice compared to the others, such as rye berries. RR

IF they grow fully, then they should be good, from my understanding. My supposition is that if they smell sour at some point they will stall as the mycelium hits the bacteria.
